No pests here!
I mostly grow herbs in pots and I love it when some of my spidery friends help to keep the pests at bay... A mama huntsman spider (also called rain spiders and quite large - they can be up to about 35mm body length so of course look much bigger with their long legs) hung her egg sac below some of my pots of herbs which were standing on 2 upturned crates - I didn't see the nest because it was well concealed so the first I knew was when loads of little spiderlings appeared on the pepper plant (1st pic). A couple of days later after they had moulted and got a little bit bigger they moved on to some of the near-by pots - the second pic is a thyme plant, which shows how small the spiderlings are. Please remember - not all the small creatures you find on your plants are bad for them - please don't go spraying and squishing! Also remember - spiders are not as scary as many people think - they just want to get away from us and many benefit us by chomping pests.

This is a beautiful project. Thank you for your dedication.
Some I Just Planted!
I usually prefer to use smallish transplants so they grow into their space. I also don't have enough light inside to get things going well, so I have to delay seeding in the transplants. But, here are some of the containers that I just planted as a demo video. I'm still editing. 1) Growing onions out for seed with parsley and kale in my random weave basket 2) Chives in a coffee can 3) Garden sage and hen and chicks in a broken bucket 4) Sweet Bay and thyme in a goodwill find 5) Wild strawberries and chives in a refrigerator veg tray. It will be fun watching them develop and fill in.

Hi from South Africa!
Hello all, I'm from England originally but have been living in the Western Cape of South Africa for the last 28 years. There are some fascinating plants here. I've grown plants in pots intermittently for many years but I'm currently growing things I can eat - mostly herbs... rosemary, thyme, basil, dill, oregano... and also chillies. I also plant some in my garden which I have left to grow pretty wild. Really my first love is animals but I enjoy all things related to nature and wildlife - plant, animal, fungus... I also do a bit of (amateur) photography and enjoy taking close up pics of our very small creatures - even when they are sucking the sap out of my plants. I have recently been given some other pot plants by an elderly neighbour who could no longer look after them, mostly indigenous, and I'm trying to identify them! I live in a (usually) very dry area and it gets pretty hot in summer... mid 30 s to 40 ish this year. We're going into autumn now so it's cooled down and I'm going to see if I can plant a few out or maybe just leave them in pots. They are overcrowded though so I'll need to repot some

you might have some ginger family there. I'm not certain. Green pot in the center?
Trouble growing dill & cilantro
I am in zone 7a and have tried a couple of times growing dill and cilantro, but without success. This year, I decided to grow dill indoors with a plant light. Has anyone had any success with both?

both will pout in hot weather. I start transplants and put them in the garden about at the last spring frost or about 2 weeks before the last spring frost. Dill is a little more difficult to transplant. The other trick for cilantro is to give it light afternoon shade if the weather is hot. I have grown cilantro in a winter green house, but not in the house.
