Vacuum sealing to extend shelf life
I already vacuum seal my bread flour and keep it in the freezer because it extends the shelf life by about a year. I had never thought about vacuum sealing my seeds but apparently it's a thing. I watched an experiment by a chap who opened a tin of "hermetically sealed" (vacuum sealed) 50 year old seeds (not frozen). It looks like he managed to get a 30% germination rate just using paper towels soaked in sterile water. All you need to do is make sure the seeds are properly dry and clean and then store them in a cool dark place. I think I may try this with some of my excess seeds - it may come in handy if there are crop failures and hence no new seeds for next season. Has anyone else tried this?
