Nemaslug
Hi good people wondered what are your experiences with Nemaslug . I usually wonder around at midnight with my head torch a pair of tweezers and a jam jar but getting a new knee on Thursday so will be unable to go safari for at least 6 weeks . I really don't want to lose the little bits I have managed to grow . They seem quite expensive any info appreciated

I tried nemaslug. I can't really say if it worked because I still had to pick off the slugs - maybe there would have been more without it? This year I tried the HH4 plant compost that is supposed to stop slugs and snails. To be fair, I've seen less slugs using this and those that have appeared have been tiny. In years gone past I've lost whole rows of veg to slugs - this year, using this compost I've only lost 4 plants so I see that as a result. The HH4 won't help you right now because it needs to be down for 3 months before planting though. It may be worth trying the nemaslug on the basis that something is better than nothing. Good luck with the new knee!
First Time Tomato Grower 🍅🍅🍅
Morning everyone 😊 First time grower here, I’m growing what I believe to be Gardeners Delight. Grew them from seeds on my windowsill and I hardened them off for 7 days before putting them outside just a week and a half ago. Noticed that some of the bottom leaves are starting to yellow. Anything natural that I can do to help them?

It could be a few things. Overwatering (from the top) can cause the roots to become waterlogged so that they cannot uptake nutrients from the soil. Lack of nitrogen can also be a problem in pot grown tomatoes which can be fixed with a specific tomato fertilizer. If that was my plant, I would be removing the lower stems - the plant can survive it. When I grow tomatoes in pots, I always put the pot in a saucer and water from the bottom. Also, when I pot on tomato plants I generally sprinkle ground eggshells in the soil, beneath the root ball. Tomatoes like calcium. Given that they are already potted out, you could try letting the soil dry out a bit and sprinkle some bonemeal across the top and lightly water it in.

@Amanda Ayres I normally just get a tomato specific fertiliser like Tomorite (or similar).
Growing your own
It's been a great day still warm but not like last two days. Put the 8ftx2ft 18mm ply piece down in the shed, tried to move the 8ftx4ft but it's too heavy for me, will have to get my son to help but I need to put braces underneath to stop the floor bouncing with it being a large span. Two compost bins sorted, weeds picked at bottom and top of garden (just middle to do tomorrow), found an old bbq, it's at front of drive for scrap man. Two raised beds dug over, manured and topped up, then cardboard over. My back is killing me, resting now. Start again tomorrow. Hopefully it's like today weatherwise

I'm exhausted just reading that! 😁 I've finally topped up the raised bed for the rest of the tomatoes, planted them out, along with some basil, and sunk in two worm towers for kitchen scraps to feed the soil. Tomorrow I really need to clear out the spring cabbage bed ready for swede seeds.

@Caron Walton I bought these from Temu - it's a UK seller and they arrived in a week. https://share.temu.com/JppsaqSDL6B
slightly off topic...village kindness
With the world going slightly bonkers and lots of people losing sight of goodness, i just wanted to share how sweet it is, that in my local area, people are still selling little plants at the roadside. When people have no use for household items, they will pop them outside by their gate and offer them forward. There is even a kindly person , who pops a big bag of potatoes out, every couple of weeks, for people to help themselves. My grown up children also tell me we have a local barter page on FB (i dont have FB). I hang onto those lovely kind things that people still do, and hope that these people will slowly show others that being kind is good.

I do something similar - I cannot use all the apples on my old apple tree so every year I put a plastic table out at the top of my drive with bags of apples in them for people to take. The first time I did this, I noticed people in the street practically running down the road for a bag of free apples. I grew up in a village where this type of behaviour was quite normal. I live in the city now and it's quite rare, hence the (almost) stampede for free stuff....🙄
Today’s task !
With the concerns fed by governments of water shortages hear bursting new high temperatures 😂 I’ve been looking at the availability of water that falls on this one build that’s 40 square metres No we are fully of grid here so it doesn’t save us on water costs but it does reduce our battery life drawing it from the well. So the more water it’s of rain water the less power used 👍 So 2 bits in today and several more sites I’m looking at around thd site which has about 10 more large buildings And let’s face it plants do love rain water 👍🙏

I've started linking my water butts so I have overflow water butts. This means that when the main butt that comes off the diverter is full, the overflow pipe (DIY job) starts to fill the second water butt. I just had to make sure that the first one is about 6 inches higher off the ground than the second one. I ran out of water last year during a particularly dry spell and had to draw it off the mains, so this year I have doubled the capacity.

@Jo Burns There are a few states in the US where collecting rainwater is restricted or require "registration with the state". I wonder if that's going to be on the agenda for the UK at some point.
