One of the biggest medications being talked about right now — the GLP-1 class — was originally created to treat Type 2 diabetes. Did you know this?
But during treatment, researchers noticed something interesting: Patients weren’t just regulating blood sugar… they were losing weight.
That observation turned into further studies. Those studies turned into separate approvals. And now the same class of drugs is widely used for weight management. That’s not unusual in medicine. Sometimes discoveries happen because of side effects that turn out to be beneficial.
But here’s where my brain starts THINKING…
If a drug was created for one purpose — and only later discovered to significantly impact weight and appetite — what else might be discovered...say, 5 years from now?
What other long-term effects (positive or negative) are still unfolding?
And that’s not fear. That’s curiosity. That’s critical thinking.
Because historically, medications went through 20 plus year studies before being available in the market. Over time — especially post-2020 — approval pathways and timelines shifted in certain cases.
Again… not conspiracy. Just observation.
So the real question isn’t “Is it good or bad?”
The real question is: Are we thinking long-term? Are we pairing medical tools with behavioral change? Are we asking deeper questions about sustainability?
Medicine evolves. Science evolves. But so should our discernment.
That’s all I’m sayin'. 💚 What are your thoughts on this?
