1️⃣ What’s one thing you wish candidates would stop doing during interviews?
Over-embellishing their accomplishments. It’s okay to be proud of your achievements, but if you're trying to make your experience sound like a fairy tale, I can usually tell. Authenticity always wins.
2️⃣ What’s the most common misconception candidates have about you as an interviewer?
That I’m looking for a perfect candidate. I’m really more interested in authenticity and passion. No one is perfect, but a real, motivated person who’s eager to learn? That’s what I’m looking for.
3️⃣ If you had to switch roles and become the candidate in an interview, what would be your secret weapon to stand out?
I’d use storytelling. I'd share a personal experience that showcases how I overcame a challenge or learned something unexpected. Stories create a connection and make you more memorable.
4️⃣ What’s one question you think everyone should ask in an interview, but nobody ever does?
I think everyone should ask, 'What’s one thing you wish you knew when you started working here?' It’s an excellent way to uncover insights into the company’s culture and what really matters to the team.
5️⃣ What's one skill or trait you think is underrated but should be more valued in interviews?
Curiosity! A candidate’s genuine interest in the role, company, and the industry shows a lot more than a perfectly rehearsed answer. It's the people who ask thoughtful questions who often bring fresh perspectives.
6️⃣ If your life had a theme song that played every time you entered a room, what would it be?
Definitely 'Hall of Fame' by The Script (feat. will.I.am). It’s like a motivational anthem that sets the tone. But, on second thought, maybe ‘I Will Survive’ just for those particularly chaotic days!
