How to use FB Birthdays more effectively
Most people use it to say “happy birthday” and move on. But if you use it strategically, it becomes one of the easiest ways to clean up your network and boost your visibility.
Here’s what I do:
Every day, I check who has a birthday… not just to be nice, but to be intentional.
I click into their profile and take a quick look:
• Have they posted recently?
• Are they engaging?
• Do they look like a real, active account?
You can tell in seconds.
If they’re inactive, I remove them.
(No hard feelings, just making space for people who are actually showing up.)
If they are active, I don’t just drop a quick “HBD.”
I engage first.
I’ll like or comment on a couple of their posts so my name shows up in their notifications… then I go back and wish them a happy birthday.
Now it feels like a real connection, not just another comment.
Over time, this:
• Cleans up your friend list
• Helps the algorithm see you as active
• Puts you back in front of people
• Opens the door for natural conversations
Honestly, I’ve found people who haven’t posted in 6+ months… and sadly a few who’ve passed away.
It’s a reminder your network isn’t static. It needs tending.
Most people are chasing new followers…
Meanwhile, there’s opportunity sitting in the audience you already have.
