Weekly Check-in (10-17th Nov)
Have been spending this week figuring out drawing rhythms for square shape faces. For some reason my mindset seemed to be focused on planes.Tried to do rhythms without tracing but ended up confusing myself so decided to go back to tracings and then do the rhythm freehand drawings next using tracings as a guide until they start becoming invisible to me. Centrelines especially for down tilt and up tilts faces were also confusing me as I kept drawing mine at some random angle making the face feel flat every time. I came across a video by Steve Huston on using the LTL method to place centrelines and this has been helping me see them better. First drawing is tracings and 2nd one is one of multiple attempts of drawing rhythms freehand which realise need more practise with. I started off with timed 5-min poses but then ended up strapping it and revisiting unit since I was going well over my time and realised I was drawing planes and not rhythms like the exercise was for. I did have other drawings for the freehand but sort of deleted them as again kept drawing planes and angles instead of flowing curved connected lines, I eventually realised rhythms are the construction part of building head not likeness where planes are which is why I find this exercise troublesome as I was trying to achieve likeness and not the flow and connection. My go to approach has been constructions drawing with planes and with a few rhythm lines drawn to show connections to side plane. Drawing Rhythms without planes is unfamiliar to me so more practise needed. One rhythm line I'm unsure about is the big circle / mussel (?). Not sure where this connects to (if it' is Zygomatic cheekbone or nose bridge) from chin.
