China's Emerging AI Influence
China's AI scene is heating up, with companies like DeepSeek, Tencent and Baidu making big waves in the AI scene since the start of this year.
The pace of these companies in the past few months has been staggering with models like DeepSeek V3 and ERNIE X1 competing with the best models from the US. It's obviously not all good though, with concerns over privacy and security.
Some of my main pros and cons around the situation below...
Pros:
- Diversification of models opens up new routes to innovation
- Cost effective performance makes AI more accessible
- Open source licensing opens up collaboration and implementation
Cons:
- State censorship raises ethical questions
- Concerns about data privacy and security
