hard sparring 4/4
today i just boxed, did one round of kickboxing to warm up but boxed every other round. ive gotten p sloppy w my hands and boxing, esp in my fight, i remember my coach told me the biggest thing i needed to work on was my boxing. so td i wanted to focus on just boxing so i coukd get a feel again for just using my hands what i did well: body shots moving around idk not that much lmaoo i was working on my weakness td so i wasnt too hot what i need to work on: capitalizing on misses and slips, had so many times where i slipped or my opponent didnt connect n i didnt do anything, i need to build those reflexes keeping my mind active, i would hit a shot n then move back n j stand there n then get hit cs i would basically j stare n think bt what i j did, i need to always b thinking on my feet not standing still on the outside staying on the inside, my coach told me to stay as in the pocket as possible and i was doing so much better, its j hard to fight like that cs it takes so much energy but i j gotta get used to it keeping pressure on opponent, also takes a lot of energy not standing still on the outside head movement on the inside sometimes i parry but shoot my arm out way too much or try to defend n over extend n leave myself open, needa work on that too next week ill prob do 1 boxing round w everyone n then 1 kickboxing round w everyone, but i felt like i got 1% better td which is my goal for every day

Tuesday Night Sparring Reflection
Sparring last night went pretty good. Had a bunch of rounds with good defense and good boxing. One drop in guy had really nice boxing and switch kicks, and was throwing bombs, definitely tested my chin a little bit with a couple right crosses and left hooks. I was able to adjust my defense to them and throw counters, which consisted of a lot of lead uppercuts and left hands, I wish I through some more straight crosses and uppercuts though. There were a couple times where I a I threw a left cross as I switched stances into southpaw from orthodox which cracked him a bit, I usually like to keep it light and technical but you definitely have to match the intensity and embrace a hard spar when you have to. That left hand while switching stances is something I don’t throw too often but always works when I throw it. I was also using the Dracula guard mixed in with traditional boxing defense which was working very well. Something so kept leaning on with the boxing defensive style was the pull and bend which is great evasion for many punches where you keep your rear in guard, pull backwards and bend down. I was also flaring out my elbows a little to block strikes like Dustin Poirier does which works but can be risky. I need to work on cutting angles better, being quicker offensively on my feet, and timing my counters better. I also want to expand on my setups more, I have been good at landing quick strikes off of exchanges and counters, but if I can work on setting up traps better, I will definitely see more success offensively.

light sparring 4/1
i was the smallest guy at sparring today, but sparred a lot of people with a good mix of skill levels so i got some good experience in. also felt really tired and weak today im not sure why but i didnt feel a hundred percent so i dont think my performance was as good as it usually is what i did well on: feinting kicks timing rear leg low kick with opponent coming in using hands on the outside using riskier moves (trying to work on being confident with spinning back fist and spinning hook/back kicks) what i need to work on: closing off my opponent not getting closed off (one specific guy was reslly really good at this and kept me in the corner the whole round) PRESSURE AND USING HANDS its honestly p frustrating tryn figure out how to fifht taller guys, been trying to get better at it n i always feel like i csnt b confident w it. i think i j need to b a craftier fighter, i have some low iq moments a lot of the time like today i basicslly walked into a hook kick that was already out there but i feel like im j not good w setups or baits, i j wanna b a smarter fighter in general like the type that thinks 3 moves ahead

Tuesday Night Sparring
Hey guys, it’s been a while, have had a hectic few weeks with work and life. I still have been training, just missed sparring day and haven’t had time to really reflect outside of training. Last night I sparred a good dozen rounds or so in Muay Thai. I have been doing a decent job of developing a good Muay Thai style of guard with a forearm across the face and with the other hand tucked on the side of my face protecting my shell with my elbow and forearm, and switching this set up in the vice versa. With this, you can really march forward and clinch up better, which I was able to do to land a few knees and stay on the inside, launching a bunch of teens, roundhouse and switch kicks. My boxing was a bit sloppy, my foot work wasn’t as sharp as usual, and I was having trouble closing distance to set up combos with my hands. I was able to land a ton with my lead hand, mostly jabs and left hooks, but wasn’t landing many rear hand power shots, as I kept finding myself out of range. Towards the last few rounds, I started to lock in a bit more with my timing and using defense while staying in the pocket, allowing me to quickly fire back combos. Things I can do better: - Bait in opponents offense to get in range with striking. - Use footwork and decoy strikes to get in closer range with opponets. - Always come out of clinch forward with a few strikes before moving back - Force opponent to constantly move, taking away his chance to stand and breathe, and keeping his movements more chaotic and less calculated. - Prepare for training with proper fueling and sleep. Things I did well: - Muay Thai style guard - Used head movement for defense - Had good jab game - Good inside kicks - Good clinching
light sparring session 3/20
first session since my fight, i got sick for a whole week so i missed the first week of training after my fight, also missed a seminar at my gym from anvar boynazarov but oh well. missed sparring last week cs i had work but i finally got some light sparring in tn fore i go to hard sparring tomorrow. i was at a new gym td so i got to work with some new people who i never trained with before, it was a nice change from fighting the same people every week n getting used to their styles. what i did well on: mixing up kicks using teeps using the rear low kick as a setup and not just a attack moving forward on opponents and cutting off their movement what i need to work on: comboing after every shot COMMITTING TO SHOTS not getting stuffed by taller opponents when coming in not leaning forward when jabbing (i dont do this when pure boxing but i do it when i kickbox, something about also trying to defend kicks fucks up my boxing footwork and i feel like im constantly slipping) taking risks, especially on the inside, i always second guess myself when trying to come in on taller opponents cs im a pretty short guy so i always feel like im gonna get stuffed head movement (used to have great head movement but for some reason as i got more experience i got worse at it) tomorrow im gonna work on using kicks to set up boxing combinations, comboing off or into a rear low kick, responding to shots immediately, n following up defensive moves with strikes
