What Machine Should I Buy?
This is a question that I hear very often in many CKM groups. There’s no right or wrong answer. At the end of the day, the choice will be yours, but I want to put my opinions here so you can make in informed choice, based on what yarn you want to use, your budget, what you want to make and other factors. I have a number of machines, and I have used them all. I will give you my take on which of my machines I like the best…and worst! First of all, you will need to know what machines are available. I will list here what machines I know: Addi: they make 3 machines. 46 pin, 22 pin and the Egg, which I think is 6 pin Sentro: they make 4 machines. 48 pin, 40 pin, 32 pin and 22 pin. Jamit: They make 2 machines which are both 48 pin, one electric and one is manual Prym: they make two machines, one has 44 pins and one has 20 pins Knitting Circle: they make 2 machines, one has 40 pins and one has 22 pins Of these machines, the ones brand I don’t have is the Prym. In my opinion, the Addi machines are far superior to the others. They are very well made in Germany to high specifications . Second to Addi, I would put the Jamit machine. They only make a 48 pin that I am aware of. They are also very well made and are a very sturdy machine. I think that the Sentro machines are very popular. They have a lot of different size machines and are great if you are on a budget. In my collection I have the 48, 40, 32 and 22 machines. The larger machines have worked very well for me but the small 22 machines have given me some issues. The one that has rabbit ears really isn’t worth buying. Don’t waste your money. The little one that has four legs is better. I call it the spaceship as that’s what it looks like.. lol.. see the photos below. The 32 pin is hard to find so can be quite expensive compared to the other Sentro machines. Be careful and aware when buying Sentro machines though as there are some ‘knock off’ ones about, they look like Sentros but usually have a different name printed on them. These will work but probably not as well as genuine Sentros.
