Write something
Setting
When approaching setting it's important to get facts right. if you're writing autobiography, biography, fiction, non fiction where setting is needed in the book it is of course not as important. Setting can be a background character in your book. If you are using a real city, county, country you need to have a map or know the area very well. People travel and when they go to these places and cities they will remember the story and what happened there It's another way to connect with your reader. Connections mean return customers. So where is the setting for your story? Comment below. Butt in Chair.....GO!
Setting
Write what you know.
Nothing new under the sun. What you think, feel, hear see others do too. You are unique, but we have connections to others by what we have experienced. For example everyone has felt the betrayal of a loved one, friend, family or lover; everyone has experienced the death of someone they love or hated and the emotions connected with that. It's nothing new. But.... While I can not feel your feelings for you, I can write things that cause you to relive those feelings. The villain you want to caress with a ball bat, the wronged child that needs a friend and you just want to hold them. The woman that saw her husband making love to his mistress (this happened to me). The things you experience are the things your reader has experienced. It's your connection to them. Their situation may not have worked out, your situation might not have worked out, but the character in your book that they see themselves in can get revenge or see their ex run over by a steamroller while trying to escape with the life savings of the former lover. You bring laughter, tears, anger, excitement, suspense and a myriad of other emotions to your reader. They take your characters with them for the rest of their lives. It all comes from your experience. So what experiences or emotions do you want to start your story? Butt in Chair GO!

How do I start?
Easy answer: at the beginning. It's not that easy, though. You have an idea. You have a fantasy. You want revenge. You wanted to date him or her and someone else is. You have had a traumatic life and want to encourage others. You are super smart, have a skill or are a doctor, lawyer, engineer and want to tell others and teach others. You have an obsession with someone historically or current and want to research them and honor them with a book. So you can write about these things in your book. Think about all the thought you have on your topic. Write them down and research them make it your own. You are not the only person in a world of 8 billion that have these feelings. You already have an audience so write for them, then find them. Comment below. Quiz: What do you want to write about? Hint: There is no wrong answer. Butt in Chair...GO

So Many Books, So Little Time
With so many books written, will mine ever be read? Yes. How many movies, T.V. shows, songs are out there. Do you listen or watch only one? Of course not. There are different genres, that's more important to readership than the huge number of books published. So write that book. Talk to the millions of people that have common tastes in books as you do. All the stories and information out there has pretty much been covered before with the exception of new people being born to write about, new discoveries and current events of any kind. Share your opening hook. Don't worry, everyone thinks theirs is the best. You can't take someone's words, but their words can give you an idea. That's writing. You have an idea how to tell that story in a new way. So let's see your greatness. Butt in Chair...let's go!
So Many Books, So Little Time
Butt in Chair
To write you must have your butt in a chair. I guess you could write laying down, but that always ended up with my pillow taking advantage of me for a couple hours. Not a very productive end to a writing session. After successfully seating yourself in your favorite chair, at your desk, in your car, work break room or anywhere else you want to sit you need your supplies. •computer •phone •notebook •scrap piece of paper or note cards •stylus •pen or pencil •colored pencils •crayons Basically anything to write with and to write on. Then write. Anything. It doesn't have to be in order. Can be a group of notes. Can be a complete chapter. Maybe it's a description of a character. Just write...your butt is in the chair
