Will WhatsApp allow voice calls with AI agents via API?

The other day I attended an event about artificial intelligence, and someone mentioned something that really caught my attention: that WhatsApp might allow the implementation of voice agents through its API. In other words, a customer could receive a call directly via WhatsApp, just like any regular call within the app — not through the traditional phone network.

It sounded super powerful, but I’ve been searching for official information and haven’t found anything. Has anyone heard about this or seen anything on the topic?
