I’ve been thinking about the long-term sustainability of freelancing and agency work, and I’d genuinely like to hear from people who have been doing this for a while.
With more freelancers entering the market each year and AI tools lowering the barrier to entry, competition feels stronger than ever.
A few questions I’m trying to understand:
- How do you consistently acquire new clients over time without relying purely on luck or referrals?
- How do you reduce the risk of losing existing clients to competitors?
- Is client churn just part of the model, or are there ways to build real long-term stability?
- In your experience, is the freelance/agency market still growing in opportunity, or just growing in competition?
I’m not asking for shortcuts or hacks. I’m genuinely interested in long-term thinking and sustainable positioning.
Would appreciate insights from people who’ve been in this space for 2–5+ years.
