I kept two jobs to work my way through college. Because I refused to quit.
I walked seven miles to work during financial hardship post divorce. Because I refused to quit
Of four jobs I had during that hardship, I worked at our local hospital, County E911, City Police Dept, and County Environmental Department. Because I refuse to quit.
I now serve as the president of that City’s Council. I sit on the Board of Directors for that hospital and the E911 Center. I am also now the contracted County Director over Emergency and Environmental Management, as well as Homeland Security. I also serve on the Board of Directors for Energy Southeast which services municipalities Statewide and prepaid Electric services in over a dozen states. Because I refuse to quit.
I once walked Because I couldn't afford gas. I slept in the cold because I couldn't afford heat. I missed meals because I couldn't afford to eat. I was looked down upon by those I worked under, just because I was so poor. But I refused to quit.
In the end, they couldn't hold me down and now some of those same people work under me.. BECAUSE I REFUSE TO QUIT.
The best part is that I now can be kind to and help those that are less fortunate because of the positions that I earned through commitment. Those in the lower positions know that I am in their corner, and I get to watch as I help open doors for them to have an easier time than I did trying to climb the mountain. I will choose a person that has held integrity through hardship over someone with a masters degree in a moment. I still get out and labor with the laborers, and I will scrub a toilet in my agency unless the janitor pulls rank on me. No one works for me; they simply work with me. I was able to create this work environment simply because.....I REFUSED TO QUIT.
