During a recent conversation with and , we were discussing how Public Skool communities can attract more visitors organically through Google Search. That conversation led us to an opportunity many community owners may be overlooking.
YouTube!
Remember, Google owns YouTube, and videos often get prominent placement in Google Search results, with thumbnails that draw attention.
Look at the accompanying image (edited with AI). Notice how much space Google gives to video results?
So why not use that visibility to help grow your Skool community?
Here's a simple strategy I recommend:
✅ Start with keyword research. Identify questions and topics your ideal community members are searching for.
✅ Publish a YouTube video first. Create helpful content targeting those keywords, with an optimized title, description, and thumbnail.
✅ Turn that video into a valuable Skool post. Expand on the topic with written content and embed your video.
✅ Link them together. Include a link to your Public Skool post in the YouTube description, giving viewers a direct path to your community.
Think about the possibilities.
Suppose your community focuses on sourdough baking.
You create a YouTube video about How to Make Sourdough Bread for Beginners, then publish a companion post in your Public Skool community.
You've now created two opportunities to appear organically in Google Search, potentially reaching people who have never heard of your community.
And here's something important: This strategy works for PRIVATE Skool communities, too!
While your private community posts aren't publicly accessible to Google, your YouTube videos can still appear in search results.
Simply point the link in your YouTube description to your Skool About page, where potential members can learn about your community and request to join.
Of course, rankings aren't guaranteed, but each piece of valuable content creates another opportunity to be discovered.
Here's the bigger takeaway:
Every helpful topic you cover in your Skool community can become part of your organic search strategy, whether your community is Public or Private.
You don't need twice as many ideas. You need to make your existing ideas work harder!
Thanks to Mindy and Mark for the conversation that inspired this approach.
Let YouTube help people discover you, and let Skool give them a reason to stay.
