Gravy is just fat + flour + liquid. Once you know that, it gets way less scary and you will become a pro at making homemade gravy.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter (or pan drippings)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1–1½ cups broth (chicken, beef, or turkey)
- Salt & pepper to taste
How to Make It:
- Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes
- Slowly pour in the broth while whisking
- Keep whisking until thickened (about 2–4 minutes)
- Season with salt & pepper
If it gets too thick → add more broth and if it’s too thin → let it simmer a little longer
Common Gravy Mistakes (and fixes)
- Lumpy gravy: keep whisking while adding liquid slowly
- Too thick: add broth a splash at a time
- Too thin: simmer longer — it thickens as it cooks
✨ Beginner Tip:
Gravy thickens more as it cools. If it looks slightly thin in the pan, it’s probably perfect.
