Orchestral VST for video games
Hi guys, I have a question (more than a question actually 😆) for those who works in videogame music.
First question: What do you think about EastWest products? I'm intrigued by their BF bundle Opus+Fantasy+Hollywood Strings2 for 400$, I like the demos and the various sounds that you can hear "out of the box", but I never tried them. Actually I started like 10 years ago or more using old eastwest products like RA and Symphonic Orchestra Gold, and I liked them, but time brought more advanced VSTs on the market. Alos, I'm not a fan of subscription plans but a solution could be to spend 149$ for a year and then hope to find a similar offer if I fall in love with those libs. I don't know...
If some of you have demos made with this products I would be happy to hear!
And here comes another piece of the puzzle I'm trying to figure out. It's possible that I'll have to make music for a dark fantasy game (that's why I was looking at Fantasy). As full orchestras I already own Nucleus and The Orchestra compete 3, and I use them for various porpouses (trailers and games) but for many reasons their sound hasn't been growing on me with time and I don't see them fitting in a modern adventure third person game. The products in the bundle mentioned above, although doesn't sound always very realistic, especially the single instruments alone, seem to provide a rounder sound that I like. The downside is that I think they fall in those kind of libraries that have a lot of reverb.
When I listen to modern game OSTs I have the feeling that reverbs and rooms are quite controlled while most of the libraries that I hear are way wetter, with big halls and reverbs baked in. I'm looking for full modern orchestra and chamber strings that has close mics with a controlled, studio sound...
For a smaller ensamble an example can be this:
What would you suggest me to do after all this rant? 😅 What libraries come to your mind? I know this sound like a collection of random thoughts from a disoriented guy, but there are so many products on the market and It's hard to decide without trying, especially if you have a compulsive need to buy new VSTs and big dreams of music in your head 😆
