Eventide Temperance Jam
Hey, hope you are having an amazing day! 🎸 I messed around with the new (currently free) Eventide Temperance plugin and decided to record a short video where I showcase one of the sounds I created using it with my guitar and how I set it up so the whole thing works together. It is a bit of a complicated one—I have to admit—but once I dialed in the reverb harmony to the chord progression I played, that's when the fun really started. It's going to be the first video of many where I explore how to create hybrid orchestral video game-fitting soundscapes with my guitar instead of a synthesizer. Lemme know what you think! :) https://www.eventideaudio.com/plug-ins/temperance-lite/

Creative + Business Balance
Something I’ve been thinking about: balancing creativity and business. Some days I’m deep in songwriting mode, other days I’m learning how to position myself better as an artist. How do you all split your time between making music and building the business side of your career? Curious what routines work for you.

@Jessica Maddie Well, my ideal routine is balanced, yeah. My actual routine is as balanced as can be and sometimes all over the place, I think, as with most other people. Finally I found that mornings are extremely good for logic and routine tasks, technical drill, exercises, getting stuff done and whatnot. However, when it comes to real flow state creative phases, I love nights. I'm a night person, really. It's just I've learned how to make mornings viable out of necessity, so to speak. The best ideas though, they come whenever they please. Hows it for you?

@Jessica Maddie hm it depends, ideally i either have a zoom recorder, phone oiece of paper to write down the sketch, but over the years i ve also learned to memorize ideas for a long time, theory/ear training have helped me a lot with that

I hope this one will not come around too cheesy, but you remember this one scene in Lord of the Rings where Frodo looks into this magic well by Galadriel and he sees things that were, things that are and things that could be? That's really what making music is to me It's this strange language that manages to communicate Human experiences across continents, countries, timeframes. I've had the luxury to be inspired and touched by artists and musicians whom I will never be able to meet, simply because they already passed away. And at the same time, I've I had the experience of having touched other people around the world ,whom I will never meet, with my own music. And lastly, while making music I connect to moments out of my life that were in the past, there are situations that are currently in my mind and coming up with all kinds of imaginary realities simultaneously. And funnily enough, it allows me to connect to some very old tribal part of my being that is completely disconnected from the celebral mind It makes me feel like I'm still a child playing with a toy one time, And at other times it hits me with a tsunami of existential dread. I don't know if I could name anything more alive in my existence.
🔮 Don't miss the wave: The 2025 Community Strategy
We are heading into a massive shift in the online space. I just recorded a video explaining why 2025 and 2026 will be the years of the Community Economy—and why Skool is the vehicle to do it. I wanted to give you guys the head start. In this 30-minute session, I walk you through the exact strategies I would use if I were starting from scratch today. This is the roadmap. Watch it, apply it, and let’s build. 👉 Get your own Skool community for $9

Thanks for putting this out there. I started my own school community this spring based on Alex's advice. I'll be honest, it can be tricky to get going in the beginning, but now that it's up and running, actually, it has been a surprisingly rewarding and fascinating journey. Not only did it help me to improve my musicianship a lot, but also the amount of people and great other players I get to know that way is incredible.
Composing underscore-ish Tracks (Advise and Exercises)
I like melodies. In fact, maybe i like them a little bit too much 😄. When i start a new piece i normally start with the melody and then find fitting chords to accompany it. Most of the times this works ok but when it comes to writing an underscore type like track, i really struggle, because my melodies tend to be to active. So basically the typical problem of overcomplicating things 😅. Can you guys recommend some sort of exercises to get better at this type of composing / Do you have some tipps , when it comes to writing such tracks ? Thanks in advance :)

If you want the safest route to write melodies over chord progressions, I would recommend that you focus on the individual chord tones and just connect them naturally. In a major scale, for instance, a perfect fourth can lead nicely towards the major three, major seventh can lead nicely towards the octave, and when combining different chords, for instance, you can approach the new chord tones from a semi or whole tone step above and beyond. So basically I would try to map out the chord tones on these downbeats and connect them with simple steps from above and once that is in place start going crazy with it and changing stuff that feels too simple. That's what works for me most of the times. Happy composing! :)
