How to add PAUSE in speech

My assistants are running words together

• when verifying a name spelling, running the first and last names together

• when verifying a 10-digit phone number, no pause in between the area code, the prefix and the last 4 digits

It's very unnatural. Is there a way to add a brief pause to the prompt? I've tried several techniques. When I add the text (pause briefly) it actually READS that text. A little awkward.

I've tried adding commas, [...] ellipses, nothing seems to work.

One other annoying thing - when verifying emails, the assistant sometimes pronounces @ as "AH" rather than AT.

Any ideas?
