My AI-checking Prompt
This is the prompt I start with when I am using Claude to edit a chapter. If I am writing WITH claude - I write the chapter then run this prompt: Review and refine this chapter for authenticity, voice, and flow. Work only within this chapter — do not summarize, condense, or alter the plot. Rewrite only where necessary to improve readability, pacing, and natural tone. Editing Focus 1. Flow & Authenticity Remove any phrasing that sounds AI-generated, repetitive, or mechanical. Keep the original tone, pacing, and emotional rhythm intact. Vary sentence structure for a natural reading experience. Strengthen transitions and paragraph flow where needed. 2. Dialogue & Voice Ensure dialogue feels natural and true to each character’s background and personality. Remove stiff or overly formal phrasing. Keep internal thoughts consistent with the POV character’s tone and mindset. 3. Outline & Continuity Confirm the chapter follows its outlined goal, complication, choice, and consequence. Maintain the correct POV character and emotional progression. Ensure relationships, motivations, and tone stay consistent with prior chapters. 4. Pacing & Scene Energy Tighten sections that drag or repeat information. Build tension and emotion through character action and reaction, not summary. End the chapter with forward momentum — emotionally or situationally — that leads naturally into the next one. 5. Genre & Tone Alignment Maintain consistency with the story’s world, tone, and genre. Keep any romantic, suspenseful, or emotional beats aligned with reader expectations. Preserve atmosphere and setting details without over-explaining. Output Goal: Produce a polished version of this chapter that feels natural, emotionally engaging, and true to the author’s intent — improving style and flow while keeping every plot beat and voice consistent with the original story.
My AI-checking Prompt
I wrote my new booklet in 90 minutes
I spend this morning creating a free booklet to server as a loss leader to our 8 week FB Ads workshop (hosted on Skool) Well, when I wasn't baking cookies and getting a baked brie ready. 25ish pages, done in maybe 90 minutes. Not including the cover (which isn't really amazing but it does the job) and uploading videos to Youtube, loom, you know it, this sucks! How I did it: Mal did a 1 hour Live on Thursday. So I fed the video into Loom to edit it and grabbed the transcript plus the SOP which I use to create quick checklists and graphical images to help understand the concepts. Then I took that transcript and fed it into ChatGPT which is very well trained on my voice and style for my author community. (Hello, Writing Wives!) Then we wrote section by section and I expanded and formatted it how I liked it. It's designed to give lots of info and value but doesn't break things down into the nitty gritty details because then it'd be hundreds of pages long and no one would need to join the workshop. Then I asked Chat for the title and the subtitle. And I took it from there by highlighting, bolding, centering, and adding memes as necessary! Plus merging it with an info sheet I wrote a few days ago. Writing a short non-fiction book doesn't have to be hard but it helps to know where you are are and where you want to go. (Which Mal's transcript provided for me as I often have trouble with frameworks) (This next part works for fiction too) At the end, the important part, make sure to have a direct and quick CTA to drive traffic to whatever you are selling. People won't buy unless you ask, so make sure you do. (Blurb, website, Facebook posts) Doesn't have to be a gimmick, or a hard sale pitch. People want your books, so just let them know where they can get it! Not intended as a sale post but if anyone wants a copy, I can provide it.
