Data loss with Chat.
Just sharing this as an FYI. I have been working with Chat for a couple of weeks on a novel. We struggled at first, but finally hit a good stride about halfway through and we have been rolling at about 8-10K a day with Chat writing initial draft and me rewriting it ever since. It was taking more effort than I thought it should, but we were still making excellent progress. Today I rewrote the last chapter, then uploaded it to Chat to get feedback on where there might be issues...as I've been doing all along. It kept locking up and I spent almost an hour, uploading the data several times and chat simply would not respond. I tried refresh and it did nothing, so I logged off and logged back in only to find the entire book had disappeared...everything after Jan 15th. Thank God, I was saving each chapter offline in Word, so I had it, but I lost all of the discussion, suggestions, and any other back and forth...completely gone. This means if I had lost that content earlier, he would have lost all continuity in the story. As it is, it is only one chapter worth of evaluation I lost Not a big deal. But this was all done in project folders. So what are project folders worth if you can lose an entire 54K novel? Be careful if you are writing in Chat...copy and save on another platform is your friend!!!

@Christie Bickelman Yikes! That's frustrating!

Well, I found a lot of that lost data...was inside a different folder...and I will swear I wasn't anywhere near that folder when we were working on this stuff. Could I be wrong? Always possible. But I do remember repeatedly looking at the folder name every time I went in, to make sure I was in the right place. In fact, that's how I realized it was gone--because the whole folder disappeared. Now there are random chapters inside the folders for another book. ARGH! Doesn't matter. I finished the book anyway...nanner nanner, Chat!

This is my first book written using one of the purchased codex/outline packages. Even though I waded in and updated the codex and outline, then struggled with NovelCrafter and had to shift processes mid-stream to using ChatGPT, I still managed to do the entire package--54K ebook & print book written, covers created, metadata created, and live on Amazon in one month--to the day. Prior to this, my best delivery time was 3 months and I almost killed myself doing that. So I am absolutely thrilled. I believe now that I have a process worked out with Chat, I could shave a week or ten days off that timeline if I chose to stay with the same process. But, alas, I'll probably either hit NovelCrafter again or jump ahead to Antigravity...just because. :) Here is my finished product...https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GMKVQR26
Valentine's Day Romance?
I'm going to take a page out of @Nicky Penttila book, 😉 and share my latest release I created using a codex/outline and NovelCrafter! The NC course REALLY helped and made this a much more seamless process. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GHPZ38LY

Where I Am
Ok so my moving situation is different than most - see we bought a “turn-key” place which is awesome right? In some ways yes - lots of stuff stays so I don’t have to move it But we also still have the condo and switching stuff isn’t going as quickly as I thought We just got internet Friday at 5pm (it was supposed to be between 8-10am) The desk isn’t set up (I’m hoping maybe tomorrow) so I haven’t brought my desktop over which is all disconnected So of course I’m behind in my editing world. NC stuff IS coming - I can’t record on my laptop because it just doesn’t work very well as it’s not stable (my lap moves as Bugsy jumps everywhere - plus ok he’s confused with all the packing so he’s barking at everything) I’m slow but I am getting there! If my desk doesn’t get setup in the next day or so I will need to postpone the AG class (don’t shoot me yet) by a few days to a week tops. I’ll know this tomorrow 💗 but I’m giving you a heads up just in case. Please no rotten tomatoes just yet… 😉

Novelcrafter kicking my...
Okay, so I have been working a bit this last week with Novelcrafter and we have developed a real love-hate relationship. I ask it to do something and it does whatever the hell it wants to do. LOL (Reminds me of my son when he was a teenager.) I've found that the less information I give it, the more closely it follows the story beats. Give it the full book outline and it is pulling things from chapter six to write into chapter one and never mind the story beats that my added prompt tells it I must have as the opening scene in chapter one. It has been a real wild ride and I find myself going back to Chat again and again for consolation and for help reining NC in. Sigh...that's the hate part But it's been good experience and it's helping me to become familiar with what's in the codex/outline and to get a sense for how NC works. Also, the words it writes are good words and would be terrific words if it actually followed the story beats. LOL But I'm sure a lot of this is user error and I can see where it will be really fast to get through a book once I've sorted it out. That's the love part (sort of). :)

@Buddy Tripp This is my first venture into the arena of using any tool other than Chat to help me with the writing part, so I am a total newbie at anything other than chat. I found the class very helpful as it gave me an overview and exposure to what is possible in that arena. I had no freaking clue. It is my understanding that there are also written instructions coming once Dana digs herself out of the moving boxes, :) which I expect will be a huge help to me, as I learn by doing...often by doing it wrong. LOL I hope I didn't freak anyone out with my email. Chaos is often my learning environment...so do not make your choices based on my experience. :)

Hey there! I write paranormal and western romance. Dragging myself kicking and screaming into marketing. Not my thing. I don't wanna. But I gotta.
