Listen.
I need to share something that happened to me today , because it is a lesson every single one of you needs to hear before it costs you something important.
I lost work today. Real work. A full Substack voice guide I had built out in Claude. A complete business organization plan. Gone.
And here is the part that stings the most, it did not have to happen.
I was asking Claude how to organize and archive my chats. It told me I could move chats into Projects and then safely delete them from the sidebar and that the content would still live inside the Project.
I tested it on one chat first. It looked fine.
So I trusted it and deleted the others.
They were gone. Not in the Project. Not in the sidebar. Not in settings. Gone.
I went back to Claude and said you told me this would be safe. And Claude owned it. Said it gave me wrong information. Which I respect. But my work was still gone.
So here is what I need you to understand:
AI is a tool. A powerful one. But it does not know more than you. It can be wrong. It can give you confident answers that are incorrect. And unlike a human who might second-guess themselves ā AI will tell you something false with the same calm energy it tells you something true.
That is not a reason to stop using it.
That is a reason to stay in the driver's seat.
Here is what I am taking away from this and what I want you to take too:
ā Always test before you trust. I tested once and thought it was enough. Test more.
ā Never delete original files until you have confirmed the backup exists and works.
ā Save important work outside of Claude. Google Docs. A folder. Somewhere you own.
ā You are the authority. AI assists. You decide.
Have you ever experienced this?
