About a year ago my son and I built this little train game together. He has loved trains for many years, so it was pretty obvious what theme our first game should have.
For me the project was much less about building a โgreat gameโ and much more about spending time together and letting him explore how games are actually made.
He helped with ideas like:
- what upgrades the train should have
- how the game should look
- and even the soundtrack (generated with Suno using his voice).
While we were working on it he learned a lot about how games work, how ideas become features, and how digital things are created. It was a fun way to build some media and tech understanding without it feeling like learning.
The game itself is very simple (just HTML, CSS and JavaScript), but the experience of building something together was the best part.
Sometimes small projects like this are the best way to get kids curious about technology. ๐
