How to set up Claude Skills

Tutorial: Set Up Custom Claude Skills in <15 Minutes (No Coding Required)

If you aren't leveraging Claude Skills yet, you are seriously missing out on some major productivity gains.

A lot of people avoid this feature because it looks intimidating or technical. But I promise you, it is actually stupid simple to set up.

Here is the step-by-step guide to building your own AI agent skills (even if you're non-technical):

### The Setup

**1.** Go to your **Settings > Capabilities > Skills** and make sure "Claude Skills" are enabled.

**2.** In that same menu, toggle on the **"Skill-Creator"** skill.

*(Think of this as the "Meta-Skill", it is the tool you use to have Claude build other tools for you).*

### Creating The Skill

**3.** Open a fresh chat window. Ask Claude to use the **"Skill-Creator"** skill to help you build something new.

**4.** Describe exactly what you want. Be specific about the output you need.

*(Pro Tip: You can even ask Claude to turn an existing Project you are working on into a standalone skill!)*

**5.** Claude might ask a few clarifying questions. Once it understands, it will generate a **Skill File** and a **Read-Me document** for you.

### Installing & Testing

**6.** Read the Read-Me (it tells you how it works) and **download the Skill File** it created.

**7.** Head back to **Settings > Capabilities > Skills > Upload Skills**.

Select the file you just downloaded. Once uploaded, make sure the toggle is **ON** so it is live.

**8.** Test it out! Open a new chat and ask Claude to use your new skill by name.

### Refining

**9.** If the output isn't perfect yet, go back to the chat where you created the skill. Tell Claude what needs to change.

*(Note: If you make edits, you will need to upload the new version of the file in Settings and turn the old one off).*
