The launch of the UK AI Opportunities Action Plan is a welcome step forward in ramping up safe and effective AI adoption across the UK.
Excited to be part of the momentum this will generate, with all 50 measures being rolled out. Here’s what stood out to me:
➡️ A recognition of the AI skills gap and a concerted effort to grow AI talent.
➡️ Creation of a National Data Library and focus on Data Assets with the identification of 5 high-impact curated datasets to drive innovation.
➡️ Building on the Scan > Pilot > Scale approach to drive re-use across organisational boundaries. This will be key, from what I have experienced deploying AI to drive efficiency across government in recent months.
➡️ A faster AI procurement process, recognising the need to be agile, moving quickly to rapidly prototype and spin-up pilots in high-impact areas. Having been closely involved in piloting and scaling AI tools within Government, this change is long overdue and already blocking progress in high-value areas.
➡️ Establishment of AI Growth Zones and scaling of UK Compute Capacity.
➡️ Regulator-driven acceleration of AI use with proportionate, pro-innovation, and contextual assurance and governance.
The full plan can be found here, and is well worth a read.
