🎉 NEW TOOL DROP: Vet School Fit Matcher is LIVE
If you've ever stared at a list of 60+ vet schools wondering "which ones am I actually competitive for right now?" — this one's for you. We just launched the Vet School Fit Matcher, a free tool built exclusively for this community that analyzes your profile against every major AVMA-accredited vet school and tells you exactly where you stand. Here's what it does 👇 You enter: ✏️ Your GPA 🕐 Your vet experience hours 📍 Your state of residency 📬 How many LORs you have (and what kind) 📚 Every prereq course you've completed And it instantly sorts every school into one of four buckets: ✅ Meets All Requirements — you're in the competitive pool 📚 Would Qualify — Need Courses — here's exactly what's missing ⚠️ Borderline GPA — here's exactly how far the gap is 📋 Requirements Not Yet Met — here's exactly what you still need No more guessing. No more Googling 12 different school websites. Just answers. What makes this different 💡 👉 61 schools — US, Caribbean, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, and more 👉 School-specific prereq logic — it knows that Oregon State waives gen-ed if you have a bachelor's, that UGA requires 8 credits of upper-division biology, that Penn Vet prereqs are matriculation requirements only, and hundreds of other nuances 👉 LOR and hours tracking — if you're short on letters or experience hours, the school still shows up with specifics on what you need rather than disappearing 👉 International toggle — US students can opt in to see international schools when they're ready 👉 Grade tracking — enter your grades and get flagged if a course doesn't meet a school's minimum grade requirement ⚠️ One important note This tool is for guidance and planning — not a replacement for doing your own research. Requirements change, and you should always verify directly with each school before applying. That said, we update the data annually to keep it as current as possible. Ready to use it? Check it out in the classroom under the Picking Your Vet School Workshop! Built with love for the Pre-Vet Skool community.

This is amazing, thank you so much for this opportunity! I find it incredibly interesting that there are other schools available that many in the US have not really looked into
Just curious 🤔
When looking for a career in animals how did you know you wanted to be a specific type of animal caretaker? How did you decide between all the possible options?

I’m currently an undergraduate student studying Animal and Poultry sciences on the pre-veterinary track and here’s one piece of advice that I think would be incredibly helpful: during your studies, you will be given hundreds of chances to explore new and interesting fields. I came into college sure that I would be a companion animal (canine and feline) veterinarian—but things have changed in my short time as a student! I got a job as a surgical veterinary assistant, a position that has taught me a lot about client communication, animal welfare, and speciality. While in school, I get to work with cattle, sheep, and horses—something I’ve never gotten to do in the past! With all of these new experiences and access to exciting educational opportunities, my path is constantly changing!
Hands-On Experience
Which species have you had the most hands-on time with? Which feel most unfamiliar to you? I’ll go first in the comments😊

Personally, I have had the most experience with canines and felines—and I love it! Despite not getting to own my own dog until my freshman year of high school, I have always found myself around companion animals whenever I had the chance. I was always the kid at sleepovers who would hang out around the dog more than my friends, and I wouldn’t change that for the world. I have grown up in more urban areas where agriculture is lacking, making it hard for me to gain experience with large animals. I am now going to college in an area where agriculture is very abundant, making it relatively easy to get hands-on experience with cattle, horses, sheep, and even swine! I am hoping to gain more wildlife experience in the future opposed to agriculture. Wildlife conservation has been an area of focus for me, and I would love to give back to the beautiful creatures we share this world with. From the average robin at your bird feeder, to the mysterious snow leopard, I want to be apart of a change that truly matters even outside of your ordinary clinic!
Welcome to Pre-Vet Skool! 🐾
I’m so glad you’re here. Whether you just discovered your love for veterinary medicine or you’re putting the finishing touches on your application this cycle, you belong in this community. I’m Dr. Nisana, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I built this space because I love working with students, but not the politics of universities. This is a place where you can: 🔬 Explore real clinical cases that make you think like a vet 📋 Get support on every part of the application process 💬 Ask me anything — no question is too small 🤝 Connect with other students who share your dream As a founding member, you can help me to create and shape the community and resources inside! A few things I want you to know: You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to show up. The students who get noticed by vet schools aren’t always the ones with the perfect GPA — they’re the ones who are intentional, prepared, and passionate. That’s exactly what we’re building here. Step 1: Introduce yourself below! Tell us where you are in your journey — are you just starting out, or are you deep in the application process? I’d love to get to know every one of you. So you are aware: I will be filling the classroom over time. Some resources I'm going to level-lock. So, this means you will need to "gain points" to unlock some resources. Step 2: GAIN POINTS- You gain points when another member likes one of your comments or posts! (1 like = 1 point) Level 1 - 0 points Level 2 - 5 points Level 3 - 20 points Level 4 - 65 points Level 5 - 155 points Level 6 - 515 points Level 7 - 2,015 points Level 8 - 8,015 points Level 9 - 33,015 points Please, please provide any feedback about what's working for you or not working for you in this community!

Hello, my name is Zoey! As they tend to do, animals have found their way into a special place in my heart—making me extremely passionate about animal welfare and veterinary medicine. I am a rising third-year at Virginia Tech studying Animal and Poultry Sciences. I have been working as a surgical veterinary assistant for roughly a year, but I have been involved in veterinary medicine since 2023. I started my own small-animal focused club on campus, gaining a large crowd of pre-veterinary students and those interested in animal welfare. I have organized several events such as CPR demo from a VMCVM veterinary student, many fun service events, and much more! I aspire to become a mixed animal veterinarian in the future, hoping to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves! I plan on continuing the low-cost and volunteer work I am currently involved in—making veterinary medicine more accessible and the human-animal bond even stronger. I am excited to continue my pre-veterinary journey in such a wonderful community!
