Something To Think About
We talk about clothing and personal hygiene as far as men, status, and advancement in life. But if we don’t learn, practice, or act as gentlemen, you will only be a Neanderthal that looks and smell good. Looking good, smelling good will not make any difference if you do not possess the ability to be a gentleman l. If anything, it will make you stand out in a negative way.

I’m curious what yall consider acting like a gentleman actually is. To me it’s about being ready to help someone. Keeping an eye out for opportunities to be kind to a stranger. Using pleasant language. I dropped swearing years ago heh - except when I talk to that one friend, you all have one too! On one extreme there’s the “m’lady” memes where a “gentleman” = flirting. The other extreme is this weird alpha male stuff where I assume gentleman = weak. I don’t think there are many examples in society for kids to look up to and think “yeah there’s a gentleman and I would like to be that”. So often the style seems outdated and the actions seems similarly out of touch with modern life. I’m rambling a bit. But this post got me thinking heh

@Anthony Buntyn Anthony, I must respectfully disagree. There’s a flaw in the logic of your argument: dressing a certain way does not cause violence, just as dressing well does not ensure virtue. Correlation is not causation. What people wear is often a reflection of deeper social and economic forces, not the root of their behavior. History gives us plenty of examples. In the American South, slave-owning aristocrats dressed impeccably and behaved like “gentlemen,” yet they upheld a violent and brutal system. Nazi officers were known for their sharp uniforms, but their crimes are among the worst in human history. Even the Mafia, as you mentioned, wore suits while engaging in extortion, murder, and racketeering. Violence and immorality aren't mitigated by a nice outfit. Ironically, one of the least violent groups from the mid-20th century was the hippies, and they rejected conventional dress entirely. If anything, your argument has the order reversed. It's not that people dress poorly and then become violent — it’s that those facing poverty, instability, and marginalization are more likely to experience environments where violence occurs, and they have fewer resources or incentives to care about fashion. Dressing well costs money, time, and mental bandwidth — luxuries not always available to people struggling to meet basic needs. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs puts clothing related to style or identity near the top, under esteem and self-actualization. But violence and social unrest tend to occur when people are stuck at the bottom levels, trying to secure food, shelter, and safety. If you're living in crisis, matching your belt and shoes doesn't even register. The way people dress can reflect their circumstances, but it does not define their character or their potential for violence.

Let me know thoughts - what goes well, what could use improvement. Shoes are a comfort necessity from being on feet all day at a trade show.

I like the collars on that shirt a lot. The way they flair out looks good on you, like it’s adding shoulder width or something
OOTD: first time wearing loafers lol
Y’all are really inspiring me to get creative. If you told me a week ago I’d be wearing this outfit, I’d say you were crazy! This community has already done so much to open my mind to men’s fashion. I finally have permission to care about what I wear haha! Anyway, the pants are a little too tight around the calf, but I’m feeling great nonetheless. Got these loafers for $13 at a thrift store and dreamed up this outfit. Hope y’all are having a great day!

@Alex Kilpatrick or getting out of the car, pulling down the pant legs, then my shirt untucks…
Loafers - yes or no?
I'm trying to branch out and need some advice. I found these loafers at Cole Haan. What do y'all think? Do they work with shorts? Would they be better with long pants? Or are they ones I should just pass on?

Cole Haan have some very interesting shoes. They’re like formal up top but with a sneaker sole. I have a pair of wing tip sneakers from them that I have to rack my brain to find an outfit for, but I also love them haha
Tailored suit
The suit is finally finished and I wore it to my cousin's wedding! The fit perfectly! My dad and uncle also got their tailored suits as well! (I'm the one on the left.) P.S. Notice the cat pin on my left. My little sister gifted that for me ❤️
