OOTD - Thursday 11 June
Today is Thursday, so that is the day of the week I head into the office for work. Very cold overnight, still only 6 degrees on the way to work with quite a lot of fog around. I love the cooler weather as I am able to get my overcoats out and use them. I built this outfit around my new M.J. Bale Hemming Shirt is crafted from a premium 100% cotton in a bold Aqua and White Bengal stripe design. This is the first Bale shirt with a 2 piece yoke and they feel much nicer than the older shirts. Chose a charcoal suit and was having difficulty with which tie to wear so I asked ChatGPT and the suggestion of the Solid colour Burgundy tie was inspired. I had originally picked some black shoes and a black belt, but it came across as a little too formal with the shirt, so I switched it up to use my Oxford Wingtips and a Brown Strap. Altogether it looks terrific and I think the brown grounds and softens the outfit. I have added what I will post to Instagram, this is drones by using the post I put up for the Skool, I then take it to chatGPT and ask for a certain style and action to spin it into something the reads a little cleaner. For todays post I asked for something more informative with a fashion forward outcome, below is the result. “Thursdays are my in-office days, and this one arrived with a proper winter mood: 6°C, heavy fog, and the kind of chill that finally justifies reaching for an overcoat. Cooler weather is my favourite for exactly that reason—outerwear gets to be the main character. I built today’s look around a new M.J. Bale Hemming Shirt in 100% premium cotton, cut in a bold aqua-and-white Bengal stripe. It’s also the first Bale shirt I’ve owned with a two-piece yoke, and the difference is noticeable—cleaner structure, better drape, and a more refined feel than the older versions. To keep the shirt’s colour doing the talking, I anchored everything with a charcoal suit. The tie was the final decision point, and a solid burgundy ended up being the perfect call: modern, confident, and a great contrast against the aqua stripe without competing with it.

Now that is definitely a great look.

A query for the sartorial vanguard regarding warm-weather belt theory. In finalizing my wardrobe for a trip to Cancún, I have run up against the limits of traditional leather. My standard-issue leather Anson straps, while impeccable in a business-casual setting, feel decidedly heavy-handed when introduced to resort wear. The stark contrast between smooth, structured leather and the slubby, breathable weave of linen creates a visual 'hard stop' that disrupts the relaxed silhouette of tropical tailoring. Accordingly, I welcome the insights of my fellow RMRS gentlemen. My palette for the trip consists of navy, khaki, and vibrant coral shorts, complemented by tailored linen trousers in green, blue, and wheat. My current hypothesis is to introduce texture over sheen, utilizing 1.5-inch micro-suede straps in navy and sand/beige. I would appreciate your counsel on whether these napped alternatives achieve the ideal synthesis of structure and ease."

In addition to a fairly full work day, the day brings about a much grander affair: my eldest will walk in his graduation ceremony, having completed high school. I've told both of my boys that their college ends only after at least one PhD, so he's got several more years ahead of him. Regardless, he has gone from a young 14-year old freshman, attempting to make the cross-country team the summer before classes began to an honorable young man, hungry to move into a new phase of education and sports competition (X country and track, where he runs the long distance races). He has learned how to fall in love, maintain a romantic relationship over time (they are coming up on 3 years), how to persevere in a very advanced academic program (he was the first year of students admitted to new program where he took half of his classes as AP classes at his high school and the other half at a local community college), how to manage himself in a job and earn respect of his colleagues and bosses, how to manage his finances, and even how to stutter or fail and still get up, dust himself off, and continue onward. I am incredibly proud of the young man he has become. Not because of how it reflects on me or was my doing, but because he made many more wise choices than bad ones. He asks for input on a tough issue, but ultimately makes his own decision. For the ceremony, I let Logan pick out the suit and my app and I put together the rest of the suit. • Suit — SJ-013, SL-022 (Mantoni): A light gray Mantoni windowpane suit in lightweight woven wool with navy and light blue accent lines creating a sophisticated pattern scale of 4. The 80% lined jacket features notched lapels, dual rear vents, and paired flap pockets—tailored in Q4-2025 for a precise fit. High-rise trousers with 1.25" cuffs complete the silhouette, offering both belt and suspender anchors for versatile styling. • Shirt — DS-044 (Charles Tyrwhitt): A white non-iron poplin French cuff dress shirt from Charles Tyrwhitt with a semi-spread collar (5" spread). Cotton construction with medium opacity, soft hand feel, and maximum formality rating of 5/5. The adjustable French cuffs with square edges provide the perfect canvas for distinguished cufflinks on this milestone day.
