Hypermobility and air hunger - maybe one for Rebecca?
Ok so until last night, I had never heard of this. Ari has hypermobility (something else I was oblivious about until about 6 months ago). She has in the past mentioned that there are times when she feels that she simply cannot get enough air in, even when she takes deep breaths. I presumed this was just her being anxious, nervous etc and basically dismissed it. Last night she sends me a reel from Insta with the message, "this is what I have been trying to explain" and there is an article from a young woman who has hypermobility and has what is called Air Hunger where hypermobility seems to prevent the individual from feeling that they are getting a proper lungful of air and this can result in a feeling of panic and anxiety. I scroll down and there are dozens and dozens of posters having light bulb moments. All suddenly realising they are not alone and are not crazy. I think the bit that stung me the most was the comments that being told to take deep breaths doesn't fix this because their physicality is different. Cue a massive amount of mum guilt and a bit more understanding of why Ari gets these "panic attacks". Not for one minute dismissing the fact that she is naturally anxious and over thinks etc but perhaps this helps to explain why she is not a straight forward fix. The OP had a breath trainer thing which apparently helps to train the body to breathe correctly and strengthens the areas where hypermobility can cause some issues. Is this something that David / Yul / Rebecca have heard of? Are any others struggling with this ? Anyone got any experience of tackling it? Tried the breath trainer? Thanks and sorry for such a long post.

so - Ari is diagnosed with hEDS or HSD? Start with Diaphragmatic Breathing, then go to movement-integrated breathing (inhale to arch lower back, exhale to flatten), arm/leg extensions while maintaining nasal breathing which trunk stability, also humming can help as it forces exhales to be stronger. Other than that, train hard at high heart rates...

Regionals and end of the season
this weekend I had the regional championships. Overall I‘m really happy with my performance. On Saturday I had the 50 and 100 fly. In the 50 I was .07 over my PB and won silver. In the prelims of the 100 I felt great and went my first 1:00 of 2026 and was hyped for the final. Sadly the afternoon got scratched because of another massive storm so no final and also no relay. I was seeded first so I became regional champion without even swimming the final. also we were the favorites for the 4x100 mixed medley relay which should have been after the final. That also wasn‘t competed On Sunday I only had the 100 back. I placed 4th in the prelims and could improve by almost a second to take 2nd place. I also swam my fastest time in an outdoor pool but still not happy with it - my PB would have won me the race :/ My season is now over and I wanna get back into my training rhythm to prepare for Tenerife So hyped for that already Thanks to everyone who supported me in my first season with swimpros Specially @Cedric Wittmann and @Oliver Buzas but also to @Yul Münger You‘re the best guys - looking forward to meet u all again soon

Hi everyone! This weekend I'm racing at the Regional Championships. I started yesterday with the 100m breaststroke. I didn't manage to match my PB (more Than 1 second and i don’t really know what went wrong), but I still came away with the silver medal! 🥈 Today I raced the 200m breaststroke, which definitely isn't my event. My coach wanted me to try a different strategy: go out really fast and then hang on until the finish. It worked pretty well—I almost took a full second off my time and won the bronze medal! 🥉 Tomorrow it's time for the 50m breaststroke 🤞🏻 Then I'll have two final weeks of training before the Italian Championships in Rome. 🤞🏻🇮🇹
