@Oliver Wing honestly I often just use the selfie camera. It’s quicker and easier to frame the shot and the phone screen acts as a monitor. Two notes: 1. Turn on the 3x3 grid to help you frame the shot. If filming yourself (talking head style video), You should be dead center, and your eyes should rest at about the line just above the center square, without cutting the top of your head off. 2. Make sure to look at the CAMERA while you are filming, and not at the screen. This takes practice. The screen is there to check that everything is in focus and looks right, but if you keep looking at it while you film you content, you won’t be ā€œlocking eyesā€ with your viewer as the watch the finished product. That being said, I do prefer to use the better rear camera on the phone when possible. Depending on your phone and it’s charger port (USB-C works best for this) you ca get a USB hub, and then plug a microphone into the hub, have an HDMI-out to a computer monitor or TV, and keep the phone charged all at the same time. You may even be able to plug in a USB storage device to save your video recordings to, although i haven’t tried this myself. This setup is a bit more involved, but it lets you use the better camera AND have a monitor to see yourself on which can be very useful.

@Oliver Wing I would probably go with the DSLR unless the tablet is newer and has a decent camera (at least 1080p @ 30FPS). Does your DSLR have a screen that flips out and around to use as a monitor? And any challenges with the DSLR?
VidIQ
There are many free and paid tools that can help you get an edge when trying to grow your YouTube channel. Today let’s talk about VidIQ: If you’re serious about growing your channel, VidIQ has been a game-changer for so many creators in YouTube, and for me personally. Here’s why it’s worth checking out: šŸ“Š Smart Analytics That Actually Make Sense - See which of your videos are performing best and why - Track your growth over time with easy-to-understand charts - Compare your channel’s performance to similar creators šŸ” Keyword Research Made Simple - Find the exact tags and keywords your audience is searching for - See how competitive different keywords are before you use them - Discover trending topics in your niche ⚔ Real-Time Optimization - Get suggestions for better titles while you’re writing them - Optimize your descriptions with keyword recommendations - A/B test your thumbnails to see what works šŸŽÆ Competitor Intelligence - See what’s working for other channels in your space - Find content gaps you can fill - Learn from successful video strategies The free version gives you a solid foundation (check out the chrome extension!), but the paid plans unlock some seriously powerful features that can accelerate your growth. I’ve been using it for my own channel and honestly, it’s made keyword research so much less overwhelming. Instead of guessing what might work, I can see actual data. If you want to give it a try, here’s my link: https://vidiq.com/woody (just so you know, I do get a small commission if you decide to upgrade to a paid plan, but I’m recommending it because it genuinely helps!) Anyone else here using VidIQ? Would love to hear about your experience! šŸ‘‡

Personal Update
Hey everyone, just wanted to say I know I haven’t been very present in the community this last week. I’m helping my mom navigate a recent health situation, and that has been taking up much of my attention. The good thing is, I’m not the only one here in the community! You are all encouraged to post questions and comments, share ideas and ask for feedback. Have a question about something that’s in the classroom (or maybe something that ISN’T in the classroom)? Ask and see who helps you out! Or share insights of what has been working for you—it might motivate someone else to try something new šŸ™‚ I hope to return to my regularly scheduled participation level soon. In the meantime, NewTubers is what YOU make of it šŸ˜Ž Happy Holidays šŸŽ… -Woody

šŸ‘‹ Welcome, NewTubers! (START HERE)
If you are new to making YouTube videos or hoping to start a new channel, you’re in the right place! >>> START HERE IN THE CLASSROOM <<< Being a YouTuber is a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of work. I’ve been doing it for two years now, and it’s still not easy. Making good YouTube videos isn’t just a skill… it’s a bunch of micro skills. It can be overwhelming… But the good news that it’s all stuff you can learn! I have found that strengthening my YouTuber skills has been super rewarding. And although I’m far from an expert, I created this community for 3 reasons: 1. As a way to help other beginners by sharing what I have learned 2. To have a safe space for NewTubers to bounce ideas around and ask questions 3. To learn from y’all! So welcome, fellow NewTubers! ***FYI: Many of the classroom courses and resources unlock when you reach level 2, or when you join Premium. You increase your level by posting and commenting in the group. When people like what you post/comment, it helps you reach the next rank! It only takes a few ā€œlikesā€ to get to level 2, so introduce yourself and let’s get the conversation started!
