Building A New kind of economy
Neoliberal capitalism might be nearing its end. A new kind of economy is being built. Its happening in real time. Zohran Mamdani caught the headlines, but something just as radical is quietly bubbling away in Europe. Crazily, its coming from the very places that birthed Colonialism and Empire, the very extractive systems that continue to underpin modern day capitalism. The number of organisations working to build a new, holistic economic system is accelerating in Europe, with almost half of them founded in the last decade (link to the full story in comments, below). As the map below shows, there is a growing West-East divide on where those organisations come from. The UK, Germany, France, Spain and Belgium have the highest number of organisations dedicated to building a new type of economy, spawning new ideas such as housing collectives and community energy projects. That number begins to plummet the further east you go, with ingrained cultural resistance playing its part. Still, we all feel the exploitative roots of neoliberal capitalism. Minorities have long known this more than anyone - from the indigenous Sami people, under threat from the extraction of their ancestral lands because of 'self sufficiency' directives from the European Union, to British Bangladeshis like my own family working low-pay, dangerously frontline gig economy jobs during the Covid pandemic. If you're interested in learning what a new type of economy might look like, come and join my online conversation with Jo Swinson at Partners for a New Economy and Chris Monaghan of Metabolic next week with Alliance magazine, on Thursday 20th November (registration and time details here): https://lnkd.in/eienFCjm Thank you Shafi Mussadique for this!

Translators & Bridgemakers
this is one of the slides I used during the Unconference workshop called 'How to Translate the IDGs into concrete Outcomes your Clients Care About' and it will be the basis of our Client Value Challenge. Yes, we are bridge-makers, but we are also translators who need to be really good at speaking both languages, the IDG-language (or the new paradigm language), but also the business language and current (or some might say old paradigm) language. Because it's only when we address the organizational challenges (pain points) that we get heard, understood and taken seriously. That's why we'll become experts at reverse-engineering - or translating. From IDG language (the different dimensions and skills) to organizational pain points, employee's needs and respective SDGs. P.S. in the last hangout we noticed most of us speak at least 2 languages! šŸ‘‰ How many languages do you speak ? Drop it in the comments

@Sarah Santacroce I missed the Unconference and therefore the slide 'How to Translate the IDGs into concrete Outcomes your Clients Care About'. If you attached it, I am not finding it. Any chance to post again? Merci d'avance ;)

We'll be following the 5 dimensions and wanted to ask you if you have a preference which dimension we start with:

Gender Bias in AI Risks and Opportunities- UNDP
In a hang out last week we briefly touched on the topic of artificial intelligence and there where many different perspectives in the room. I want to share this one here. It may be easy to dismiss it as being far away in Latin America however I believe the same pattern recognition issues are a constant. Check it out and share your thoughts. UNDP Paper on* Gender Bias in AI Risks and Opportunities* for Latin America and the Caribbean September, 2025 https://www.undp.org/latin-america/publications/gender-bias-ai-risks-and-opportunities-latin-america-and-caribbean This working paper examines the risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence (AI) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), with a special focus on gender bias. Grounded in the region’s socio-economic realities and the situation of women, it also considers the AI economy, regulatory debates, and the technical systems that increasingly shape decisions affecting people’s lives. The paper highlights that although AI promises efficiency and innovation, its reliance on pattern recognition often reproduces and amplifies existing inequalities, particularly those rooted in gender. AI systems trained on biased data risk replicating and deepening these disparities. The central argument is that confronting gender bias in AI is essential—not only to safeguard women’s rights but also to ensure that LAC can harness AI responsibly and inclusively, positioning the region to benefit equitably from technological change.

I agree that gender bias, and other biases, could easily flourish in an AI world that depends on what is already out there.
Who will be at the IDG Summit in Stockholm mid-October?
The IDG summit is getting closer. Only 2 weeks now... Who will be there in person this year? And who will watch online at a watch party? Add a comment below with 'in person' or 'watch party'. @Nadene Canning and I will be there and we'll organize a gathering, still need to figure out when as there's so much going on already ;-)
