Starting My New Journey: 2 Plugins Per Week | 8 Plugins Per Month | 96 Plugins Per Year
I finally did an inventory of all the plugins I own… and the number is around 300 🤯 But they are useless if I don’t truly know them. So I’m starting a long-term journey of studying and testing each plugin, beginning with the most important ones. My plan: - 2 plugins per week - 3 days study per plugin - at least 1 hour each day - Sunday review of both plugins That means 8 plugins per month and so 96 plugins per year. I’m committing to some understanding how each plugins shapes tone, dynamics, color, and workflow. It’s going to take time and patience. But honestly… there’s no other way. Is there? Gotta do it!

I feel so humbled! Honestly, my appetite for plug-ins is growing as my ears get better, but I’ve got such a long way to go. Take compressors—I’m at the point where I’m finally starting to get, and hear, the sonic shaping of attack release etc but I’m not ready to say I can hear an FET vs optical, for example. So I like your idea of exploring your whole inventory, but I’d want to think about what you need to learn next. For example, I’ve been reluctant to jump into channel strips because I haven’t been confident enough in my ears to know what I’m trying to do, hence worried about just turning knobs.

@Luiza Milenova I remember those days! Listen to a YouTube video and the guy says "Wow, that sounds so much better" and I'm thinking, "Wha?" It gets better.
What's your DAW?
What DAWs is everyone using and why did you choose that particular one or more? Mine is Steinberg Nuendo 4.3. I also just got FL Studio.

I use Studio One. Haven’t yet implemented the Fender update. I started all of this with free Cakewalk and learning that DAW and about processing from Mike Enjo’s Creative Sauce channel. When cakewalk moved to a fee model, Enjo favored Studio One. He also runs a Studio One Revealed channel which is good for beginners. I went with his arguments for Studio One. I’m not doing this professionally so I’m not super concerned about speed and workflow, which is where I suspect some DAWs get their die-hard fans.
New Song Release!
Hey everyone! So I just launched a new artist project called "tethermind," and the debut single, "Noize," is officially live on all platforms. 🪐 What makes this one extra cool is that it's a collaboration between four of us here at mastering.com. I composed, arranged, and wrote the lyrics; @Lucy Warr nailed the emotion and vibe with her vocals; Chris Georgiou took the vocal production to a top-tier level; and @Damian Baca spiced it all up with some dope sound design and did the final mix/master. Here's the link to stream: https://ditto.fm/noize-tethermind Thanks!

Cool song. Congrats. And I remember the first time I heard Lucy's voice I couldn't get over it. I'd listen to her vocals all day long.

Aw dang it. I wish I’d had more calls with you @Berlin RedluX and had planned to, but wish you the best wherever you’re going.
Skiing precision
These downhill racers! Even with some taking a bit longer lower friction line, or a shorter higher friction line, after a couple of miles and nearly two minutes, the leaders still finish within a single kick drum transient of one another! That amazes me.
