Need help with the Foundation First method
Currently I am working on the Final Mix assignment on MP101. I am trying the "Foundation"- method. I watched the instruction video several times and I get my Snare to -5 Db TP en the VU-meter around 0. Then I set the Kick to peak -5 Db TP. As soon as I combine them, my peak occasionally jumps to -2.2 Db TP when there's a fill on the snare (end of the chorus). I cannot seem to get them together at -5 TP. Or should I just focus an that fill? Can this be because of a build-up of frequencies? I tried EQ-ing things, that does not seem to get the job done. Any recommendations/tips? Or should I just wait the the Foundation-method and finish MP101 first? Thanks in advance!

@Chris van der Linden Yeah I think they should teach this technique using different scenarios of Kick and Snare combinations, so we can see how to get the same results no matter what type of song we're creating.

@Anthony Story Yeah When Jake was teaching gain staging was -10db for every instrument. I'm trying to grasp this new concept, but so far it's been a struggle.
Still Tryna Understand "The Foundation"
So after watching a few replays the kick is supposed to sit at 0 on the VU meter. Does it have to sit at -5 on the LUFs meter? Sometimes my kick is: *PERFECTLY at 0 on the VU meter, *but is like -7db on the LUFs meter. OR •PERFECTLY at -5db on the LUFs meter •but completely in the RED on the VU meter. They are not covering this in these videos. @Caleb Loveless please help!

@Tom Hiester So I figured the kick out. @Nathan Hershfeld helped me. Go to the classroom tab. Click on the Mixing Cheat Sheet Module. Then go to the "Kick problem" lesson. It will help you get your kick set perfectly.

@Nathan Hershfeld Bet! Will be my next step. Thanks! 💪🏾
Bass Won't Sit Right In The Mix!
I'm following the Mix Cheat Sheet. I've gain staged my kick & snare to peak at -5 on my LUFs meter. They are both sitting at 0 on my VU meter. But when I add my bass my LUF meter spikes to -3.7 no matter how much I reduce the gain on my bass track or my compressor, It will not go back down to -5 on my LUFs meter. Why is this happening? It's frustrating the hell out of me!

@Mark Stone thanks about to watch this one right now.

@Adex Felicia So should I reduce the low end in the bass to get the luf meter back down to -5?
How To Target My Audience?
There are several communities of people who love what I create, musically. I want to be able to create content for my target audience but I'm not sure out of the different communities of listeners I have, who is my main audience? How do I narrow down who's my target audience?
How To Make Vocals Fit?
If I record my vocals on a microphone but the rest of my instruments are midi. How do I make my vocals sound like it's a part of the song and not recorded in my bedroom? There's a distinct difference in the sound. That makes my vocals stick out instead of sit in the mix.
