I am writing this from a point of subtle burnout. yes I am not perfect I sometimes overdo myself and end up needing to take an extra long break. For me I love what I do so much that its sometimes hard to stop. But this Saturday I barely touched my phone (other than to log my calories on cal.ai haha -> we are getting shredded this summer) But I can wholeheartedly say...our mothers were right. "Its the fucking phone" being distracted too often by our phones is the thing that is draining our creativity and our life force. It will solve more problems then you can possibly imagine. Yes you need it as a tool for your business, but we all have to consciously think about what we will use it for before we actually pick it up, not for time to simply pass by faster. Our brains are an amazing organ but also hyper sensitive, whatever we feed it with will radically influence its output. Thats why we need filters: - why am I using my phone right now? - am I consuming or creating? what is the intention behind it? - how can I structure/design my phone to have it be used intentionally? Right now I have my phone in black/grey and I can switch between color by tapping the one button 3 times. I have everything ordered in folders and deleted all unessary apps. goal is to get my screen time under 2h everyday. 90% of the time will be work related and if possible even get it under 1h. That is my no BS update of what I am focusing on, I hope this gives you insight on how you can structure your days better to produce more output without frying your brain. It's always hard to balance that as a visionary, as a reality creatr. But I promise you it can transform you. This is my morning routine to dial in that focus. Wake up. Read Bible + book. 30 min. Coffee, walk. Dial in for 2h deep work with a timer. Short break. Then 2h work with timer. Then breakfast. then day continues with busywork. That is my gameplan, lets do it. Build your own Reality, Jay

It’s not just that we doom scroll. It’s why we do it. I’ll be honest with you here… I’ve caught myself picking up my phone when there’s nothing urgent to do. Not because I’m bored, but because there’s a bit of discomfort underneath. Pressure, uncertainty, sometimes just a restless feeling in the body. The phone becomes the quickest way to not feel that. So yeah, optimising apps, going grayscale, setting timers, all of that helps. But if we don’t understand what we’re trying to escape, we’ll just replace it with something else. For me, the shift has been catching that moment: Why am I reaching for this right now? No judgement, just noticing it. Sometimes it’s avoiding a hard task Sometimes it’s avoiding stillness Sometimes it’s avoiding my own thoughts Once you see that clearly, something changes. You don’t need the scroll as much. Your routine is solid as well. That structure makes a big difference. For me though, I’ve had to make habits a lot smaller and more sustainable. With 3 jobs and 4 kids, it has to fit into real life or it just doesn’t stick. So instead of big blocks, it’s small moments. Even just a 5 second pause before picking up the phone. Just enough to ask: Is this intentional or automatic? That’s where you start taking control back. Appreciate you sharing this. Not enough people talk about this side of it, everyone just jumps straight to productivity hacks

@Jay Hiette oh don't worry, I've got that motivation, the kids and jobs aren't an excuse for inaction, I just apply that understanding why I'm coaching my own clients, habits look different for everyone, they need to, otherwise they don't stick
