They need the "Hot Rod" Rodrigo Blankenship
Snow Kicking
Was lucky enough to get a 40 fg attempt in some brutal weather during the second round of D3 playoffs. Some thoughts I wanted share that helped in this. 1. Changed my plant foot soccer cleat for a football cleat 2. Slowed the operation time down because they will be slower too 3. Focused on good contact getting hips through the posts

K-balls?
Eagles coach Vic Fangio isn’t shy about his dislike for the new K-ball rules in the NFL this year. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16jAVtFLFA/?mibextid=wwXIfr

I think it's good for sport, kickers are getting better, and attempts are longer. But it also leaves a greater risk for the loss of field position. And in late game, can create iconic game winners.
Practice Kicking from the Hashes
Last season our special teams coach stressed the importance of kicking from the hashes in practice and in our off-season training. He took a stat from the last 4 seasons at Whitewater and 80% of the kicks came from the hashes. I would bet these numbers are similar to other levels as well. So just a reminder when gearing up for your season at any level make sure you get your work in from both the hashes.
Fall camp
Alright been a while, how is everyone here preparing for fall camp to win your jobs, and to be prepared for your first game?

I try to get out and kick at least three times a week, may kick more depending on how hip flexor and knee are feeling throughout the week. I've been doing my sessions starting with punt, then field goal, and kickoff. I do a drill or two to warmup until getting to full steps on all phases. Each session I usually try to do something new or different to see if it works. Punt, I have experimented with different steps, hops, drops etc. Some days I will go out and try different punts like a banana or an Aussie, or work more directionally. Field goals I move my steps around to find an ideal spot, or change my jab distance, and I do the same for kickoff. I have spots that I know I am comfortable with for the most part and they work but I am experimenting in order to find near perfect spots. I do this experimenting in the offseason so that when I go into the season I can say I already tried this or that and I confident in the way I am getting a job done.

Would add some strengthening exercises for your hip flexor, knee, ankle, whatever else may bother you. Flexibility is good to have, strengthening areas you may have trouble with will do more for you long term in terms of injury prevention.
