K&P S&C Mini Series Pt. 1 INTENDED ADAPTATIONS!
Hey Guys! I'll be starting a mini series here where I post short informational videos about performance training for kicking and punting. In part 1 we are talking about our intended adaptations (WHAT ARE WE TRAINING FOR?) To me there are 3 that stand out: 1. Control/Stability 2. Mobility 3. Power We need to consider these things, or whatever specific adaptation you are looking for, before we begin to lay out a plan for our training. In part 2 we will talk more specifically about what it takes to to gain these adaptations! Hope these help you guys out! And like always, feel free to reach out with any questions. God Bless

Glad there are professionals like you to help out the kicking specialists!
NCAA... Listen to Coach Calipari
I bring you all of this NIL stuff (when kickers and punters are at the bottom of the food chain) because it IS THE NEW REALITY of college sports. EVERY level is affected by the choices (or lack thereof) that the NCAA is making simply to save their own skins. If they are in it for the athletes, then they have the power to alter the NEW RULES to become GOOD RULES. This rant by John Calipari, the Arkansas BASKETBALL coach, should be law. It's basically what I believe. We are NOT there yet, but I think, smarter minds will eventually get there. I need high school players who think they want to play in college, active college players and all of their parents to begin to see how this GAME works... and how it most likely WILL WORK.

@Mike Farley Coach Mike- Yep. You nailed it. It USED to be the Reward was playing a game you loved, and having your schooling paid for at the D1 level. Getting that college Degree was paramount. For your post college life, you need to work for the next 40-45 years before you can retire. Those that make the pros, usually have a very short career, about 4 years for most. Those that play at the D3 level like you and I did, you will need to have a job during the season and summers just to survive. Whatever you all decide to do, please put your schooling first, and become a productive member of society. Enjoy the sport you play to the fullest, for the relationships you make are life fulfilling. Now go "win every day!" - Coach Jim
KICKING on SPRING BREAK?
Many of you are off to warmer climates this week ... of course, taking advantage of some beautiful weather to get a few kicks in. 🏈 So what if Wisconsin just received over a foot of snow?! 🥶 Like @Jim Gorecki , you're in sunny Florida! 😎 Care to share a photo/video of you making any kind of kick? You can be creative. 🤪

@Ellis Wangelin Kicking to my wife. A little NERF Ball, it was the only ball that was able to fit in my bag. It traveled about 15 feet.
Greatest Punt Fake Duo
Many of you have heard of the "Puntrooskie", but have never seen it or had it diagrammed. Watch the YT video from when it was used to great effect by Florida State in 1988. Bobby Bowden seems to get the credit for originating the play... but that's not true. I know, because my father installed the play my senior year at UW-River Falls in 1984, and it worked like a charm. Except, he didn't invent it either... it was actually invented at the high school level by then Coach Bum Phillips back in the 50's... called the "Bummerooski". Bum would later go on to coach in the pros. Maybe your coaching career will follow the same path!!! 🏈 THE DYNAMIC DUO: At Cedarburg High School, we used it a bunch - didn't work EVERY time, just MOST every time.😅 We called these two companion plays, "Felix" and "Oscar". FELIX (top diagram) was a normal short snap punt fake to the personal protector with everyone blocking and running right (punter jumps up in the air like a bad snap to help hold backers for a second). We'd use it when it was 4th and short (3-5 yards). The short snap was enough to fake the other team out where we thought we could get at least 5 yards. Tell your back to run for the first down marker. Awesome to do early in the game somewhere near midfield. Doesn't even matter if you make it or not. (Most likely, you WILL make the first down).BUT, you're really setting up Oscar.* OSCAR (the Puntrooskie, the bottom diagram) looks just the same, except the personal protector catches the snap and immediately places the ball in the waiting hands of the upback (between his legs)! The upback stays put. "Oscar" because he needs to be a great actor by doing NOTHING. Just hold your ground for a 2 count. THEN GO!!! To the LEFT when everyone else is running right. The punter jumps up in the air (just like before) and then runs right. Your upback might get bumped. He needs to be strong and keep the ball protected — a nice wide base. No one will know he has it. It'll be crowded and scary, but green grass will open up and he should run like the devil 👹 to daylight — AWAY FROM EVERYONE!

AWESOME! When I was a Stout, we ran a very similar play vs. Northern State U (South Dakota). It went for a 64-yard touchdown, and a game winner! Coach Jim
The Kicking Friends You'll Make...
I started this group to help kickers and punters to develop their skills to their greatest potential. But also to provide a community of like-minded people, both young and old, who have a connection to this unique position in sports. Because so many kickers (and I use that term to also include punters, btw) spend their time alone on a deserted field practicing their technique, they often don't get the camaraderie that is instantaneous for the rest of the team. So making friends can be hard. I think it's why you looked with anticipation to find the opponents kicker in the line-up to shake hands after the game... to make a connection to someone who "gets you". Yet, typical for most kickers, they make no other connection to those same people outside of the game. That's one big benefit of being here! Inside KICKING SKOOL! So, please, don't be afraid to: • post a thought • ask a question • upload a kicking video • teach a technique • make a genuine comment on someone else's post • add a funny GIF to a post that expresses your approval • even, DM me, or someone else! _ _ _ I'm an "old-timer"... but I make 100+ new friends every summer at my camps. I make a point of learning everyone's name while they're at camp. I always ask, "What's your name, what school do you go to? What year will you be this Fall?" You can do the same right here. Be brave enough to introduce yourself. If you haven't already, do so again — any time! (And if you have a picture of yourself, or of you kicking or punting, we'd all love to see it!) 😆 Hey!

@Seth Adams We haven't talked yet...but Coach Farley speaks highly of you. Good luck with the SUI job. I was a holder, kicker, punter, receiver, and punt returner for UW-Stout. If I can be an "ear" for you, please contact me. Coach Jim
