I highly recommend the new solo album by Jess Weiss from the band Fear of Men. She goes by the name New German Cinema, and the album is called Pain Will Polish Me.

St Vincent show last night - wow!
I (finally!) saw St. Vincent here in Portland yesterday evening and she was quite fantastic. I do see and enjoy a lot of live music but it was a particularly great show. I've been a fan of hers for a while but have somehow never seen her live - I definitely will do so again.

I've only seen video footage of her live. She is a hell of a musician and a totally underrated guitar player.

‘Bad’ concert behaviour
I was at a show last night and the person next to me was singing along to every word of every song. While that in and of itself is not a crime (maybe a bit of moderation mighta been nice?), this person also couldn’t have found the right key with GPS. Is there anything at a concert that absolutely drives you nuts when someone near you does it?

Phones for sure. But getting up after every song or two to get drinks. If you want to drink that much at a show, buy tickets on the end of the row so you're not disturbing everyone else. The last time I saw Tool, I swear one guy in the middle of our row got up after every song. It was so bad, at intermission a guy 2 rows back yelled "this f'ing guy again". Then at the National, there was a constant stream of people getting drinks. Are you there to get hosed for booze or to watch a show?
