‘Bad’ concert behaviour
I was at a show last night and the person next to me was singing along to every word of every song. While that in and of itself is not a crime (maybe a bit of moderation mighta been nice?), this person also couldn’t have found the right key with GPS. Is there anything at a concert that absolutely drives you nuts when someone near you does it?

Talking is the worst -- in my experience, no matter how polite and nice you ask, the talkers seem extremely defensive. The worst was Jonathan Richman at the old new Croc, right when Amazon was starting to take over SLU. It was August, super hot night, but Jonathan Richman requested that the air conditioning be turned off because it was too loud. If he had an amp, it was barely on, maybe it was entirely acoustic. And this dude was talking at full volume, after asking him to go somewhere else, he just said "Well if you want to hear the music so bad, why don't you go to the front of the room?" Eventually he left.
when things feel heavy
When I'm doing the show and I play some mellow or sad music, I often get people checking in if I'm okay. The irony is, that is not what I go to when I'm feeling down. I go to the classics, the anchors, the seminal records that have kept me afloat all these years like The Joshua Tree, Earth Sun Moon, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Let Me Come Over, Cooper Blue and many many more. I'm curious, when things feel heavy, what kind of music do you reach for? Quiet? Loud? Familiar? Something new?

Depends on the gravity of emotion. Sometimes shoegaze, particularly My Bloody Valentine, is the best remedy. Sometimes Bach - no idea why, but Bach clears my mind out at times.

What are you listening to?
Let’s not overthink this… what’s on your turntable or streamer of choice or whatever today? I try to only spin black artists in Feb. in honour of Black History Month, so I’ve kicked things off with this incredible find from Vinyl Me, Please.

Good Day Father, which is a project from Tanya Donelly and Brian Fulter from Catherine Wheel - nice 90s-sounding but also contemporary shoegaze but not? https://gooddayfather.bandcamp.com/track/sonic-amadea-3
