When does a “thing” become a passion project?
Passion Projects: Mowing the Lawn? I had a fun conversation this evening about mowing the lawn — and honestly, is there anything quite like the smell of freshly cut grass? It turns out lawn mowing carries more meaning than we might think. Sue was telling me how her husband has a thing about not letting a lady cut the grass. He would always rather do it himself. That preference goes right back to his childhood, when as a young man he helped his single mum by mowing the lawn. What looks like a simple chore now carries care, responsibility, and memory. My hubby Scott also finds mowing the lawn satisfying. He enjoys the straight lines, the order, the quiet focus. Would he call it a passion? Probably not, but there’s something calming and grounding in the task, even if it is in this season more then once a week. And it made me wonder… When does a “thing” become a passion project? Is it when: 🌱 It brings a sense of pride 🌱 It helps you switch off mentally 🌱 It connects you to memory or meaning 🌱 It becomes your way of caring? Maybe passion projects don’t always look creative or exciting. Sometimes they smell like freshly cut grass and show up as simple, steady acts of care. I’d love to know — Is there an everyday task in your life that feels oddly satisfying or meaningful? At what point do you think a “thing” turns into a passion project?

I think anytime you are happier doing songwriting than not it becomes a passion, when it crosses over from "want to" to "have to".

@Leeanne Hurren I write songs all the time but tend to come in waves.
