I have been exploring opportunities to apply knowledge and skills to The heavily funded Ionospheric/Tomography research that has been underway for some time now. Perfect fit for experienced Amateur Radio operators who pursue Long range HF communications, with DX. Been doing that for 60 years or so. Even though being a late arrival to this DARPA funding offer, on this Tomography stuff, I discovered there are vast levels and layers [call them F1, F2, and D and E layers] :-) of R and D research on going to model he ionosphere which is dynamic, and complex. So far I have found pretty much ALL the commercial HF broadcasting sites around the world... [where HF RHOMBICS 1000 feet or more long are found or may be constructed.] Finding opportunities, is like finding and using a paper road map to Paris-- from Berlin. I discovered this NTA site that can offer some navigation assistance, "to Paris". Look up NTA.ORG and if you learn anything, a hot lead, that you can share, please do. -- PJB

@Shawn Carlson have my paw in space.for now. a tech demo. But i assume it will be possible to build a team? https://ifgict.org/cubesat-kit/ ~ 5k + 15k more for licencing and shenanigans so if we have 10 people, each with 2k --> 20k, we could have made it. or we can ask some TV station owners for sponsoring...

HF/VHF/UHF as well https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Takur_Ghar Famous because probably a plasma bubble made communication impossible - and the occupants were not alerted about ground situation
Limits on AI may be power generation.
We need to double our current generating power if we wall want electric vehicles, and double also if we want AI agents to serve our whims in 2030. AI may prove self-limiting then because we just can't generate the power required to feed the beast, or so says Sabine Hossenfelder.

This is the only reason why orbital AI datacenter *could* make sense, if the gains of energy outweighed problems of cooling
