Hi everyone, I'm Sarah, a freelance food, travel and lifestyle writer based in Perth, Western Australia. I discovered my love of travel writing when we lived in the Philippines. Since then a lot of the work I do is around local tourism. You see, what I realised when I lived away from home was how much we take for granted. There's always that attitude of 'yeah one day we'll do it'. In the years we lived away, when visiting home, I'd act like a tourist here. I'd create a mindbogglingly busy itinerary and drag my kids around doing all the things a visitor would like to experience, and we had the best time. It changed my perception about life, so now I'm really passionate about getting people out and exploring their own place, connecting with it in a meaningful way. I love being out in nature - hiking and camping. I enjoy road trips, whether short ones or longer multi-day. Don't get me wrong - I love international and interstate travel too, but since returning home, I've had a hard focus on supporting local tourism, local small businesses and encouraging my community to do the same. The challenge we have here in West Aus, is that it's cheaper to fly to Bali for a five-day stay in a luxury resort than it is to travel our incredible state or even go interstate, and not everyone is into camping to keep costs down. With the cost of living crisis we are currently in, small businesses are really doing it tough and the hospitality industry has never been able to fully recover after COVID. So I see my place here, as one to support the community, and encourage people to visit the beautiful places we have on our doorstep. If you've read this far - thanks for your time.
