Wall poppers
Where can I find the wall poppers? They’re great!
Karissa swimhappy was our guest on Navigating Neva
Wes and I talked with Karissa (SwimHappy) and she took us through her swim team beginnings, the lessons that stuck, and the mindset behind the way she works with swimmers today. It’s honest, practical, and full of “oh… that’s why” moments. 🎧 New episode: Karissa, SwimHappy — out now on Navigating Neva.https://open.spotify.com/episode/2tNfQfc6aRP6yrCVRrE0LN?si=w4V-GtUvS5Kbh4zGp0rLpQ

I listened and it was great! It was helpful for me to hear more about interacting with parents who are right in front of you. Currently, I teach at a school where parents aren’t allowed on deck, but I’m hoping to start private home lessons soon, so this is helpful info for me.
Calm-First Supported Float (Special Needs)
I just added a new course to the classroom that breaks down a real lesson with a special needs swimmer—no names, no fluff, just the teaching. This video starts in quiet, chest-deep water with mom on deck and zero stimulation (no crowds, no noise). You’ll see exactly how I: - use consent-based prompting without forcing - offer a noodle as an optional “security” item (and follow the child’s choice) - coach a supported back float through co-regulation (calm voice, steady contact, rhythm) - use questions + counting to 10 to shift from fear to thinking - finish with the most important part: horizontal → vertical recovery to standing If you teach littles, fearful swimmers, or adaptive aquatics—this is one you’ll want in your toolbelt. Drop a comment when you watch: what was the most important micro-moment you noticed?

I like all of it! I use the same technique of counting, often singing, to ground and distract while floating.
Thank You for Being Here — A Quick Note About Growing This Community
I want to pause for a moment and say how much I appreciate each of you being here. This group exists because I genuinely want to help, share, and create something meaningful. I also want to be open about how growth works on this platform. Groups are shown in the directory based on active participation — posts, comments, reactions, and ongoing engagement. Right now, we’re just under the metrics needed to show publicly. If this group has been helpful to you, I’m asking for your help in return:engage when you can. That might look like: - commenting on a post - asking a question - reacting to something that resonated - or starting a conversation you’d like support with Your activity helps this group become visible to others who need it — and it allows me to continue showing up here consistently with high-quality content and support. I’m very grateful you’re here, and I’m excited to build this together.
