Ahhhhh, exactly why I’m doing adaptive swim. There are SO many deaths around Jax, mostly autistic kids wandering into ponds. It is now in my blood to help in some way. Education, lessons, all of it.

@Neva Fairfield I’ll check it out.
Research Update: Swim Lessons, Safety, and What I’m Building
I’m continuing to pursue a research-backed way to track what “safe and healthy” swim lessons look like for children, physically and emotionally. This is not me “collecting data for fun.” This is me building a real framework the aquatics world can use. Here’s what I can say today: - I’m actively pursuing a partnership with established professionals/organizations to strengthen the methodology and credibility. - Until agreements are finalized, I won’t name names but progress is being made. - I’m committed to doing this ethically, carefully, and in a way that protects kids and respects families. If you’ve been watching quietly: don’t count me out. I’m still here, and I’m still moving. If you want to support this effort, the best thing you can do right now is stay engaged, share thoughtful input when I ask for it, and help keep the conversation focused on child safety, not ego or hype. More soon. — Nicole https://form.jotform.com/253215397819062

Talk to me
Tell me what you want, need, I am itching to put out more stuff. I was thinking I should link all of my articles here, I can make a course that has a link to all of my articles. Also my summer is busy but while I have time to spare - now - I can upload and create. So I just need to know what we need, what we want to talk about, what resources we can use... So talk to me. And we can use our Community as a chat room.

I want to be as productive as you! Teach me the way Maverick!!! 😁
Anticipation isn’t always excitement — sometimes it’s “the pool looks huge.”
This page captures what many kids feel on Day 1: big space, deeper-than-expected water, and that shy moment of “do I raise my hand?” If you teach swim lessons (or parent during them), look for these signs of anticipation: - scanning the pool / hesitating at the edge - quiet body, big eyes - watching other kids before joining in That’s not “resistance.” That’s processing. And we can teach from there. What do your kids/students do on the first day—talk a lot, freeze, cling, or watch? (This is the first page in my book “Swim With Me”)

Yes! I actually have an adapted student who is terrified of the water. I put two platforms together to make a sort of “playpen” in the water where he can sit with me and feel safe. He’s made more progress in two weeks than in the prior two months!
