A Lesson from Taylor Swift
This morning, as I was starting my day, I was watching Taylor Swift's recent interview for the New York Times. In it she shares how her fans do not want to see her responses to trolls on the internet. In her summation of her fan's thoughts, "We want your art". And I couldn't help thinking of how that applies to all of us in this community. Your fans and followers and eventually customers (given enough time) do not want to see your party pics from the weekend. They do not want to see you rip apart a troll. They want to see your art, your expertise, your wisdom, your calm in the storm, the calm (or passion or purpose or whatever you preach) that they want to have which is why they follow you. The easiest way - THINK OF EVERYTHING YOU POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA as a representation of you and your company. Are there some things you should go delete? Keep it real but don't shoot yourself in the foot. Food for thought ...

Mastering the Q&A
Don't let the Q&A kill the vibe. You just killed it. The energy in the room is electric. Then comes the Q&A... and suddenly the energy drops off a cliff because of a "comment-not-a-question" or a silent room. Don’t let a flat finish ruin your impact. - Rule 1: Prime the Pump. Always have a "planted" question ready. Say, "A question I’m often asked is..." to get the ball rolling. - Rule 2: The "Sandwich" Method. Answer the question, but always bridge it back to your core message. Don't let the audience lead you into the weeds. - Rule 3: The Final Word. Never end on a Q&A. After the last question, take back the mic for a 60-second "Closing Charge." You control the final impression. Pro Tip: You’re the pilot of the room until you step off that stage. Don't hand over the controls during the Q&A!

@Brian Gorman .. not in the Q&A. Just be honest and authentic. No prep ... respond and if you don't know, say it.

@Jerry Fletcher ... I get that for sure. Funny how I rarely encounter it. My audiences are definitely there to learn and I make it clear in the beginning and throughout my presentation that some things will be hard for them to hear. I am guessing my presence and confidence in my teachings silences those who would even be tempted to publicly challenge me. Come to think of it, MY challenging comments come in the personal dialogue. My guess - my audience doesn't dare to appear racist in public so they save that for one-on-one. People and audiences are so funny! lol

Upgrade Time!
You may or may not know that SpeakerFlow is my CRM of choice, housing all my marketing, my books, my deals and leads all in one place and I love it. But "the bearded ones" (Taylorr and Austin, the creators of SpeakerFlow) recently put out a quiz that helps you analyze your systems. Bottom line, if you have to "remember" to do something, you need a system upgrade! Working with Taylorr, we identified a few weak areas in my operations and I even did a little "if I could wave a magic wand, the system would do this automatically" and presto, chango, it is going to happen! This amazing year with a record-breaking first quarter deserves an upgrade to ensure the rest of my year is record-breaking as well so my friend, question time ... What area of your business depends on you remembering to do something (enter something, schedule something, etc. etc)? Maybe its time to put in some systems so YOU can focus on SPEAKING! The journey continues and it is only getting better! YAY!

Just to clarify - I picked "A" for #4 as I never have to tell myself to "act normal". To me celebrity behaviour meant handling it with grace and poise and kindness and genuine interest, like you were used to it, not some diva move lol. Just wanted to make that point. Open to interpretation when you talk "Celebrity behaviour".
