🎯 Don’t Lock Yourself Into Just One Dream
I’ve noticed something interesting over the years. Most composers have this one big dream — they want to write for movies. They want to follow the path of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and all the legends. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a great goal. But what I’ve seen again and again is that by narrowing everything down to only that one dream, a lot of other doors stay closed — and sometimes those doors lead to amazing opportunities. You might get the chance to work on a video game. Or maybe you get asked to write for an ad, or a trailer album, or even start working with a media agency. Sometimes you just say yes, try it out…and suddenly you realize: “Hey, I actually love this!” It could even be something unexpected.Maybe you start going live on Twitch, just showing what you do — and people begin donating. $50 here, $100 there. That adds up. Or maybe you’re a great guitarist or singer, and people keep asking you, “How do you do that?” Then you realize, hey, maybe you could even teach this, or build a small program or community around it. The main thing is: Don’t think that taking a different path will block you from your “main” dream. It’s the opposite. Every project you do, every new connection you make, every bit of income you earn from your music — it all helps you move forward. It keeps you in the game, keeps your skills sharp, and makes life easier while you build toward that big goal. And who knows — maybe one day you realize that the “side road” you took…was actually the place where you truly belong. Stay open. Say yes more often. Just make sure you’re being treated fairly and your work is valued. But please — don’t close doors before you even see what’s behind them. 🚪🎶
