Hydration
Curious about what every one is drinking to keep hydrated. I'm not to keen on just plain tap water. Maybe if something sugar free could added to flavour it. At the moment I drink tap water first thing in the morning and then it's white tea with one sweetener umpteen times for the rest of the day. Anyone any suggestions?

I’ve become a big fan of sparkling water Cold or lukewarm it doesn’t matter but cold is better I used to hate the stuff and drank tap water or tap water with ice , but then I don’t know what happened. I tried it again for whatever reasons and fell in love with it. It’s also good for feeling more full when trying to lose fat. Now I don’t like tap water that much I stopped drinking fizzy drinks like coke years ago(funnily enough my wife’s grandad I think was vice president) but will have the occasional sprite or lemonade . I love full fat milk and find it very satisfying. Good protein source and good for recovery from exercise . I’m on the semi skimmed at the moment to save some calories while losing fat The “how much water do we need” is an interesting one that I’m yet to figure out. Good to keep researching and balance current science with personal experience. There is probably a too much and a too little , so the truth is somewhere in between I’ve done a lot of water fasting over the years and found that I felt I needed surprisingly less than you’d think . But I’m sure everybody’s body is different aswell as the climate they are in A lot of factors I guess like how much calories your burning , how much you sweat , types of food , amount of food , etc
Core Engagement
I'm a little confused as to whether I am engaging my core correctly. I get the pelvic muscles, but having a problem with understanding the abdomen muscles. There are several ways I can engage my abdomen muscles. 1. I can suck my belly button in as hard as I can. Which I believe pulls my diaphragm in and up. 2. I can tense my muscles up as if I was going to cough. 3. I can also tense my muscles up as though I was preparing to be hit in the stomach. (very similar to number 2) I am not sure if any of them are correct? Also, when doing the swan exercise I find on peeling my chest up off the ground I am pushing my stomach muscles out to be tense and not inwards. One other thing I find occasionally is breathing in or out while my core is tense difficult. Ha ha and that's most of the time during the Pilates exercises. Any advice would be appreciated.

@Russ Walker I totally understand mate A lady once said to me there are good traditions and there are bad traditions Also it’s good to remember every old tradition was once a brand new one. We can all begin a new sacred tradition today ! I think you also have a lot of insight from lifting weights and that whole world of knowledge and discussion that the average Pilates teacher probably won’t (one of the reasons I’m here !)

@Russ Walker yup. It’s hard for folk to let go of things that have become deeply imbedded in their foundations, or they are emotionally/romantically attached to, or are based around celebrity/man worship. I have learned to my surprise that truth is not very high on the majority’s list of priorities! It’s not fun being the bad guy for having one’s eyes open to see what’s plain to see but that’s just the way it is 🙂 I understand the desire to be a purist (in regards to whatever the person wants to be faithful to) but the problem is that if the waters were muddied to begin with then it wasn’t as pure as they imagined.
Supplements
Anybody taking daily supplement, if so which ones? I've heard good things about creatine. I personally don't take supplements at present, but might consider doing so if I found good evidence to support it.

@Antoni Krolik so true . I go through phases of using tech and media and then just cutting it off for periods of time It can literally feel like a weight lifting off your shoulders when you detach from it . It’s very strange , but you just don’t understand what this stuff can do to your mind etc.

@Antoni Krolik The brain is a powerful thing that can lead your behaviour patterns . We have to take control of who is programming the thing lol. I stopped watching tv maybe over 20 years ago which for many would seem totally weird , but they probably understand why now It’s not that I don’t watch things coz I do , it’s just I want to select what I watch and when I watch it instead of sitting under a never ending flood of programmes and advertising
Refined carbs
Does anyone have any idea whether refined carbs can increase or cause joint inflammation? I have eased off my long sessions from every other day for a bit. Mainly due to joint and muscle soreness and I don't mean DOMS. It's more like a constant muscles soreness/tiredness in the background. Specifically abdominal and hip flexors. I might add that the muscle doesn't hurt when using it, like when doing table top or walking. So was just trying to figure out if anything else maybe contributing too it. Also why the title? I got a terribly sweet tooth in the evenings!

@Antoni Krolik I’ve learned the quickest and easiest way to lose body fat for me is to just eat less calories (not necessarily less food as sometimes youl eat more food !) “Eat less move more “ is not really an accurate saying For most people (there might be exceptions) I’d change it to “if you want to lose body fat …. Eat less calories than your daily maintenance requirement… and if you what to move more then that can help a little bit too but not as much as you’d expect… but even if you don’t move much youl still lose fat “ However , if a person likes eating then eat your maintenance and do a heck of a lot of walking 😁

@Antoni Krolik yeah , that an interesting one I tend to eat the same meals a lot in the same quantities so that helps if you want real precision
Weightlifting
@Russ Walker in your membership do you have any videos on correct form or training for the weightlifting you personally do?

@Russ Walker yeah , I prefer not to hold my breath too long , so what your describing seems to work best and only holding the breath as much is necessary It can be a bit long winded (unintentional pun lol) if your thinking it through step by step . Breath -brace-squat etc It seems like you can begin the squat downward whilst simultaneously taking a breath and bracing , but don’t dilly dally too long before taking the breath and brace
