Hydration
Curious about what every one is drinking to keep hydrated. I'm not to keen on just plain tap water. Maybe if something sugar free could added to flavour it. At the moment I drink tap water first thing in the morning and then it's white tea with one sweetener umpteen times for the rest of the day. Anyone any suggestions?

@Donna Koch it will be interesting to know if carbonated drinks are less hydrating. I'll have to do some Googling.

Well after Googling the consensus seems that carbonated water is fine, though it may make you feel slightly fully due to the gas.
Core Engagement
I'm a little confused as to whether I am engaging my core correctly. I get the pelvic muscles, but having a problem with understanding the abdomen muscles. There are several ways I can engage my abdomen muscles. 1. I can suck my belly button in as hard as I can. Which I believe pulls my diaphragm in and up. 2. I can tense my muscles up as if I was going to cough. 3. I can also tense my muscles up as though I was preparing to be hit in the stomach. (very similar to number 2) I am not sure if any of them are correct? Also, when doing the swan exercise I find on peeling my chest up off the ground I am pushing my stomach muscles out to be tense and not inwards. One other thing I find occasionally is breathing in or out while my core is tense difficult. Ha ha and that's most of the time during the Pilates exercises. Any advice would be appreciated.

@Russ Walker thank you. Maybe I'm just analysing it too much, rather than just doing the best I can! Thanks anyway

I prefer dynamic movements, so either one as long as we're moving.

@Russ Walker I know what you mean!
Soft knees and mid back twist
Hi @Russ Walker, is there a particular reason we keep our knees soft and not locked for example when doing roll downs? It's not stretching my hamstrings as much as I would like. Also, when doing the mid back twist with thumbs on chest and fingers on chin you don't force the stretch either side to increase range of rotation? Shouldn't we? Or is that not the purpose of the exercise. As, I have been twisting as much as possible while forcing my hips to keep them facing forward. I'm not listing to your instructions am I, my bad. I just thought we're trying to increase our range of motion at well as strengthen.

@Russ Walker thanks for the more detailed explanation. It helps in understanding the purpose behind the exercise.
