Rebuilding Confidence?
Afternoon all, I have a question that hopefully someone/everyone could help me with. My son plays u8 level and was taking part in a match on Saturday. The striker was 1v1 with him after a through ball. He shouts keepers when sliding in to win the ball to which the opposition manager shouts at the ref (Who was also a youth) that it was a penalty. No explanation to my son nor the managers on why he has decided this. Because of this I noticed in training this week he has lost all his confidence in coming out and claiming the ball. What could I do, say that could rebuild it as he is one hell of a keeper and quick off his line! On a positive point he loves his new gloves! Thanks All.

@Kelvin Armiger Thanks Kelvin, this is exactly what I have told him. He is a cracking keeper for his age and do not want over zealous managers knocking his confidence just to obtain a pointless win.

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments. You have all reassured me that I am doing the right things. He has a game Saturday so hopefully the quick turnaround will help. Happy Friday all!
GKs: What Makes You Proud?
What aspect of your game are you most proud of? Is it the big top corner saves? Your mentality when things aren't going so well? Your communication? Technique? Handling? Distribution? Maybe reaction speed? Big 1-on-1 blocks? The list goes on! For Lewis, the first thing which got him noticed was a long kick from goal in his last U8 game when the team simply rotated GKs, because he cleared the opposition and it led to an assist. In U9, it was very quickly mentioned that his technique was like he had played the position for years. At his age, he loves the big diving saves, but for coaches & teammate parents all say it's the fundamental basics which really stand out to them

For me its reflexes and a very good pen save ratio. Had 7 penalties this year against me and only conceded 2 saving the rest. My sons strongest areas is again his reflexes but also the ability to control the back line with his footwork creating goals by becoming that sweeper keeper.

Cameron is playing for Charing u8s Vs mersham and will be using his new J4k gloves so will make sure we get some good shots of him. I'm then playing for Smarden in a Kent cup quarter final Vs deal town rangers. Football is back..... Hopefully 🤣
