📚 Quick Price Check Alert! 📚
Hey authors! While reviewing over 100 titles this weekend, I spotted something concerning: negative commissions on some books. 😱 Looks like print costs might have sneaked up when no one was looking! Before you dive under your desk or make a break for the fire exit, it might just be a few random titles... ...BUT... Your profit margins could be quietly shrinking before your eyes. 📉 Those numbers you thought were solid? They might be getting a bit wobbly. Take 10 minutes to check your compensation reports. Better to catch this now than wonder why your royalty check is surprisingly light next month! 💸 Remember: Even bestsellers can't survive on exposure and good reviews alone! 😂 Is anyone else seeing this ??

Great catch — and such an important reminder! Thanks for raising the flag on this one — definitely worth a quick audit before the next payout hits.
Wholesale discount quandry
Hi Team, I've agreed to the 55% wholesale discount on my paperback, but only offered 50% on my hardcover. It's 416 pages, and the printing costs make the margins super tight. Should that harm the paperback sales on Amazon, B&N, etc.?

@Fitz Koehler That sounds like a really solid setup — and honestly, 416 pages with 300+ instructional photos is incredible value at that price point. 📘 I think you made the right call on pricing the hardcover at $33.99 — people buying hardcover editions often value perceived authority and longevity, not just the lowest price. If your main goal is both reach and profit, you might even experiment with a small launch window at the lower price for social proof and reviews, then move back to full retail once momentum builds. Either way, the combo of bookstore reach + direct sales through your own site gives you the best of both worlds.
What's Your AI Secret Weapon
I'm sure most of you are using AI in some fashion by now. I'm curious what applications you are using and for what. I currently use ChatGPT occasionally for ideas on how to rephrase something, ChatGPT and Perplexity for research (I write about the New Orleans Saints) and also toy around with Nano Banana for book cover image ideas.
