Yvette Young makes my head explode
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yYxjux-gJ-k Young used her background in piano to use polyphony on a guitar. She taught herself guitar by ear . She notes, "I write with my ear, so I’m not really in a box in terms of chord shapes. And I don’t use [traditional] shapes at all, which freaks a lot of people out! I have a million different tunings I work in too so I didn’t really put in the time to learn every shape in every tuning, that would be ridiculous" .She uses a technique of singing the part out loud and then replicating it on guitar to decipher the parts of the songs she writes.

New Build
This time, with my 15 year old son. I gave him his bass for Christmas and he loves it so much that he wants to do another project with me. I’m beaming with joy! We will be recreating a Gibson LP in Blueberry Burst, like the one pictured. The kit is coming in about 3 weeks. I never thought that instead of losing my kid to young adulthood for the next 3-4 years, (you know, ‘dad doesn’t know anything’) that he’d want to spend time with me building a guitar together. I swear I must be the luckiest man in the world.

Project guitars
I’m looking at getting a cheap guitar off of Amazon and upgrading it. I’m just apprehensive about it and am wondering if there are problems I have yet to plan for. Anyone tried this recently? If so what problems did you run into? The guitar I’m looking at: https://a.co/d/ea6Q5Qo Update: I ended up finding a Jackson DKAF7 at one of my local guitar centers and am going to go with that. It’s about half the retail price and I am way more confident in its quality. Gonna trade some guitars in and get me a Jackson!

I would expect to find the frets need filed especially on the sides. You will probably feel each fret sticking out slightly against your hand as you slide it up and down the neck. Intonation may be off, but with that type of bridge you’re golden. Easy peasy. The electronics may impress on first listen, but once you replace them, that’s when you really start to hear what quality sounds like. The pots and capacitors are something you will want to swap out also due to lower quality components. Get wiring that you can work with. Something substantial. I deal more with the LP body styles so my wires are enclosed in a braided sheath. I made the mistake of getting a knock off claiming to be just like the big names, but the wiring is too frail
