Let’s talk about staffing struggles 😩
Hey everyone 👋 I wanted to be really honest today - my biggest issue at the moment is staffing. Finding the right people, keeping the right people, managing reliability, energy, communication… it’s just a lot. Sometimes it feels like no matter how good your systems are, you’re constantly firefighting around people — sickness, motivation dips, personality clashes, or just trying to get everyone to care as much as you do! I’m realising that the hardest part of running a business isn’t the dogs, the marketing, or even the finances - it’s the humans. How’s everyone else finding this side of things lately? Are you managing to build a reliable team, or are you in the same boat with staff changes and frustrations? I’d also love it if we could share some tips on team management and how to keep staff happy in their roles. I do try to put a lot of effort into this but maybe I’m missing something? Working with dogs is hard physical And dirty work, I completely get that so how can we make their lives that little bit better! Would love to hear how you’re all handling it - any wins, lessons, or tips that have helped you keep things running smoothly. 💛 Jess

@Jessica Spencer yes that helps a lot. I was active in the rescue world and people there are very difficult. Everybody knows it better and is the one and only expert. I really prefer to work on my own. On the other hand it‘s great to have a supportive crew.

@Jessica Spencer yes, that's true. And when we want to change things in the human-animal world we need the young people at all.

🌟 Action of the Day! 🌟
Hey everyone 👋 I’m starting something new - a daily Action of the Day post! Each morning we’ll share a small focus or intention to set the tone for our day. It could be something business related, mindset focused, or simply something that helps us slow down and stay grounded 💭 💫 Today’s Action: Be present. It’s my little boy’s 2nd birthday today 🎂🎈and as a business owner it’s so easy to feel like we can’t switch off. Even today, I’ve got our dog course at college tonight and our live call to run but I’m reminding myself that it’s okay to take a few hours to pause and enjoy the moments that matter most. 👉 What’s your action of the day? Whether it’s something for your business, your mindset, or your family - drop it below and let’s keep each other inspired and accountable ✨

Being present is the best we can do, for ourself, for our pets and everybody else 🥰
🧼 Do You Struggle to Keep Your Workspace Clean?
Dog daycares can get dirty fast - especially in wet weather! 🌧️ here in the UK we have a lot of rain this time of year and it created so much mud! Between muddy paws, wet towels and constant movement, it can feel like no matter how often you clean, the mess builds back up just as quickly. But keeping your daycare tidy isn’t just about appearance, it’s about safety, hygiene and professionalism. A clean environment reduces the risk of illness, damage and accidents while making life much easier for your staff (and dogs!). Here are some key areas to focus on 👇 🐭 1. Food & Treat Storage It’s easy to forget a treat pouch or snack tub at the end of a long day but leaving food out overnight attracts rodents and insects. Once they find food, they’ll come back… and chew through anything to get to it. ✅ Always remove all treats, food and pouches at the end of the day. 🧺 Store everything in sealed, rodent-proof containers. 💸 Make staff aware that damaged items will need replacing — it helps build accountability. 🧹 2. Cleaning Equipment Dogs love to chew. Brooms, mops and buckets left out can become dangerous playthings. ✅ Always return equipment to secure storage after use. ⚠️ It’s not just about tidiness - it’s about preventing injuries and keeping the environment safe. 🧺 3. Laundry & Organisation Towels, bedding and blankets pile up quickly and when storage gets messy, it becomes stressful and unhygienic. ✅ Create a daily system: dirty → washed → pegged to dry → folded → stored. 🌬️ Use outdoor drying racks or fences on dry days to improve airflow and reduce damp smells. 🗂️ Keep storage areas organised and clear - messy corners invite clutter and bacteria. 💧 4. Floors & Structural Care If your daycare is in a converted barn, cabin or building with a wooden base, this one’s critical. Wet floors lead to rot and holes, which can be expensive and unsafe. ✅ Mop and dry properly at the end of each day. 💨 Keep good airflow in your building to help dry the area. 📦 5.
